Raid 0..... Striping (without parity)

Raid 1....Mirroring or Duplexing

Raid 2...Bit-level striping with Hamming code ECC

Raid 3...Byte-level striping with dedicated parity.

Raid 4... Block-level striping with dedicated parity.

Raid 5...Block-level striping with distributed parity.

Raid 6..Block-level striping with dual distributed parity

Raid 7..Asynchronous, cached striping with dedicated parity.

Raid 0+1 and 1+0.....Mirroring and striping without parity.

Raid 0+3....Byte striping with dedicated parity combined with block striping.

Raid 0+5....Block striping with distributed parity combined with block striping.

Raid 1+5....Mirroring (or duplexing) combined with block striping with distributed parity.

Could we make this sticky please....:)

I second this:)
Are some of the not so common RAID levels (2-4, 6-7, etc) unoffical configurations?

There are some custom raid levels that are used but not widely.

Those we don't have to worry about because they are used in HUGE datacenters.

Like running Raid 5 on 4 machines, 15 drives each then combining all of them together for a Raid 0+5.:D

But we are talking Fiber Channel linking all the Arrays together.

Thanks:t
Definatly deserving of a sticky.

PM an admin or mod if you want a sticky, see what they say. It's probably in the moderator's forum being reviewed.

Is RAID 1+0 the same as RAID 10, RAID 3+0 the same as RAID 30, and so on?

Yes, that's just the way some people write them...:)

Okay, that site says RAID 0+1 is NOT the same as RAID 10....but it says nothing about RAID 1+0....????

Raid 0+1 and 01 are the same.

Raid 1+0 and 10 are the same.

But Raid 0+1(01) and 1+0(10) are different

0+1(01) is stripping + Mirror

1+0(10) is Mirror + Stripping

Instead of a Sticky, have you considered writing an article about RAID for the site?

That's possible..:)
