I thought I read somewhere it is short for weBLOG (web log) . You know how those 'elite' (l33t?) types make up cute little acronyms / contractions to show off... :p :p :p

Yeah, it is short for Web Log [we]blog. Say it fast enough and you sometimes pronounce it like "Blog" or "ehblog", Or maybe that's just because i'm from Manchester...
