A long time ago, I requested a Multimedia forum for posting and was told by the admin here that they were trying to keep things simple and wanted to keep the number of forums down. New forums since I suggested my request are:
data storage
programming and development
benchmarking
probably a few others, I've lost track.

Please let me note, that I have absolutely nothing against these new forums. I just want it understood that a lot of people have DVD drives in their computer with or without decoder cards using many different DVD player software. 5 or 6 Dolby digital and basic speaker systems. Various sound cards, etc., etc. And there is no good forum to discuss this stuff in. What's best? How do I play a DVD and watch TV on my comp at the same time? Plus a ton of stuff I'm sure I haven't even thought of.

Respectfully,

Scourge

Times they are a changing. I visit another forum that is predominantly about Operating Systems. It took an act of congress to get them to add a WinME forum. But as more and more users were using ME it became much more clear that an addition was necessary. I think DVD is kind of in the same boat. I don't have one and none of my personal friends have one. So in the mean time, the good old Tech Froum will have to do. I'm sure you can get all the help you need there.

While SysOpt forums are one of the best going, I believe many forume are becoming more and more specialized.

One forum simply cannot take on every aspect of all of the many different features we have available today.

I visit several different forums daily, one of which is dedicated to CD-RWs, CD-Rs, DVDs, ect...more specialized to those features.

Try looking into the following forum for your DVD needs, but do come back here for your general computer needs and questions.

I'm not sure precisely what the "Plan" for
what this forum is supposed to be is, or
if there ever was one. I do know that it's
been growing and changing just like computers
and that's just natural. Why not a Multimedia
Forum. Beats me. Thanks to Bovon for that
Link. I'm also interested in Multimedia and
I'll definitely be visiting that "Other"
forum, but I'll definitely be right back
here. Every Stupid question I've ever asked
here has always been answered, and usually
it was a good answer, with Links, advice
etc. Stick around...as time goes by I'm
betting there will end up being too many
forum topics to keep up with...

I've hinted at getting a multimedia forum for Soundcard issues, DVD issues, speaker stuff, and things like that.

Having more forum will make it easier to search through old stuff and find facts you need, but you'll be heard either way. General tech is loaded with questions like these and most have answers.

I think general tech should be a smaller part of the posting pie, truely making it for 'miscellaneous' stuff, and keeping everything easy and searchable.

We are forum users, and we can make suggestions, because we are the ones who the forum is made for. Admins are the ones who implement our ideas in order to best suit the community. If they dont feel its time to do it, or its not a good idea, then they will hold off the idea. Its like this on all forums.

I believe a Multimedia forum is a good idea. With the member base getting as large as it is, I think we can use one more forum, expecially one in a field broad enough to be used by most. Almost all of us have soundcards and speakers, and many of us have DVD-ROMs. Some of us want to know about what the best speakers to buy are, or if the SBLive is still the top of the roost. I believe these kinds of questions are narrow enough to not be included in general tech.

I had originally hinted at multimedia components such as Soundcards and speakers, but somehow included into the Videocard/monitor forum, since the components of audio and visual are very closely related, even more so these days with hardare decoding in video cards are motion compensation, and things like that. I think either adding a new multimedia forum, or including soundcard/speaker type periphials into the Videocard/monitor forum would be an improvement.

It wont do us a huge disservice if it doesn't go through. Its just one for the suggestion box.

BTW, I like what is being done with the new forums. There were a few that no one ever went to, and now thier gone. I can see everyone getting a little use out of almost each one of the forums now. Non programmers, wont go to programming, non OC'ers wont go to benchmarks that often, and people who don't take part in any distributed computing wont go to that forum, but for the most part they look like they will all be well used.

I didnt think there were all that many programmers among this generally hardware based discussion forum, but theres already 10 topics in them and all of them have at least one reply. Good looking out admins http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
