i'm trying to burn some .avi movies onto a 4.7 gb blank DVD+R disc. when i insert the blank disc into the drive, i go into explorer, and check the properties of the drive. it should say 4.7 GB of free space, but it doesnt show that there is a disc in the drive. do i have to install some certain codec or software for it to recognize the blank DVD disc? or do i have to DVD-R discs?
(there's DVD+R and DVD-R)

Sigh. Why don't people state the Windows version in question?
WinXP should be able to burn to DVD without help, but any other version requires burner software. Nero will do it.

everything works out until i click on the "Burn" button. i have the burning software, but my DVD-rom doesnt detect the blank DVD. thats the only problem. if only the DVD-rom could read the blank DVD, i'd be in great shape. what else should i do to try and have the DVD-rom to read the disc?

Are you using +R disks?

What model DVDR do you have?
Sounds like you have a DVD-r drive, not DVD+r.

What Drive do you have?
If I knew that I could look up the specs and tell you what you need.

they took the DVD+R's back, and you were right.... it takes DVD-R's. but nero wants me to burn it with a multisession, or without it. i've tried with a multisession, and the computer cant read the DVD anymore... what's a multisession do?

Don't burn in multisession unless you want to add more data later.
Then the Computer will see it.

all is well now, the dvd-rom only works with dvd-R, doesnt like multisessions... and i wasted about $10 figuring it out (ya, thats a lot of money!) thanks for your time everybody
