I have some friends who have lost some files off of a HDD that is vbery important to their success in life. An anonymous party has deleted these files. What I need is a fast and effective recovery program. Can anyone help?:t

if it's that important, why doesn't he have a backup?
hopefully, he hasn't been using the computer after that. once the files are overwritten, they are toast.
you can try drive rescue, but you'll need a second hdd:

What OS?
Many version of Windows have third party utilities that will undelete files for you. Not every version of Windows allows this however.

Well I told him the same thing. he used that computer so extensively after that that it is possibly unrecovereable. He burned several VCDs even (temp files of huge sizes will easily over write them becuase there were about 6 vcds burned today)

that's waaaaaaayyyyyy too late then
if you delete something by accident
the first thing you do is to hit the Off switch
no shutdown, no nothing
just Yanck out the Power cable
that's the only way to keep the crusters intact
just tell him to forget it then... it's a lost case...sigh....)-|
