I'd like to resize an NTFS partition so that I can install linux. I'd heard that a distro came w/ a tool that did this, but I'm not sure how reliable the source was or which distro it was. If none are cabable, would there be any reliable freeware?

How many partitions do you have?

The best way is to delete one then make a smaller one.

You can get to disk management from right clicking on my computer and clicking manage.

Then right click on the partition you want to remove...then create a smaller one....and then you will have room for Linux.

Here is one after I deleted a Volume (partition)

And another after I created an smaller volume (Partition).

As you can see I still have unallocated space to create another volume

And here is the last one.

As you can see The last volume has been created and is formatting.

I have two partitions. Now, are you saying I should delete on entirely, or just break it up?

Just delete one partition, then create 2 smaller ones.

is there any way to preserve the 20+ GB of data already on the one i'm going to be breaking up?

If you have space on your other partition then move it.

If not then you might want to look into Partition Magic.
