"I'm trying to add a ZIP drive into my system but looking inside i dont see an open cable socket anywhere. "

I take it this is a internal ZIP drive? Then it runs off IDE cable. You will either have to add another cable to empty IDE port on mobo (if you have one) or slave it off another drive preferably the cdrom.;) Nice rig by the way-how that 3giger working for ya?:t

I will assume you will be adding an IDE type zip drive, internal??..

You can have 4 IDE devices on all motherboards I am aware of, and more on some (like RAID boards).

Upgrade Hard Drive: 160GB SATA Hard Drive

I'm not familiar with this drive, is it an IDE drive?.. and will there be just the one hard drive?

Combination Drive: DVD-RAM/-R/-RW/CDRW Recorder
TDK CD-RW: 52/24/48

These are two IDE devices...so, it looks to me like you have at lease one place for another IDE drive.

There is only 1 HD, i assume its IDE. Dont know what the SATA means unless its a brand name.....(Gateway system).

Yes, both the CD drives are IDE and yes, the zip drive is an internal IDE unit. I had it in my previous system only that system had 4 IDE sockets.

Strange, I just looked inside my sys and the HD does not have a "standard" ribbon cable but a narrow blue cable that goes straight to the MB. Its thicker than the ordinary ribbon cable. I'll have to research that HD...

Wait, i just pulled the case cover off and found a cable plug, it was hidden by the other cable. That and a good strong flashlight works wonders... I'll logoff now and see if i can get the zip installed....

thanks for feedback.

Yep, it works! Sorry for the bother.

Now all i have to worry about is the power supply (get a bigger one or not??).

If i find something on the HD, i'll post it here.

thanks again,

the SATA sounds like serial ATA. thats the new kinds of HD's just coming out. Be faster in time but tests dont show much improvment yet.

Yep SATA is SERIEL ATA. ITs little faster now even but will be lots faster later. 15k rpm, that much faster! 10k rpm now. Still leaves IDE behind in spindle speed! The bandwdth is higher than needed as always 150mb/sec.:t
