Xvid is another great compression ultility though it differs from Divx. With divx u can compress video and sounds whereas the xvid compresses only vid and will need something seperate to compress the sound. From what I can tell and have heard, the xvid compression is better than Divx.
check it out.

Keep in mind that the website posted above ^ does not actually have the codec. You can get that here (http://www.filemirrors.com/search.src?file=XviD-04102002-1.exe).
I just D'led two versions of this codec today, this link gave me the only one that I could find that worked :t
Pain in the @$$ in my opinion, just use DivX, it's a standard now :D

I recently watched an XVID encoding on a mates PC and was blown away by the visual quality given the fact said file was only 700mb in size. Amazing

I thought the file size was larger, the one I'm looking at is 170 when the divx versions are around 168
Plus you gotta get the codec... *sigh*
I did think It... might've *ahem* been higher quality than DiVx...

Which video card/chip is installed ?
I used Xelo GeForce 4 MX 440 DDR 128MB and I downloaded Gundam SEED series. Some of the episodes need Xvid codecs to watch and I can say those codecs are good.
