Well folks,

I was in the process of installing windows XP Pro onto my system which has two hard drives - C and D with C being the primary, OS drive. D was just my alternate drive which stored all of my personal files. In the installation, I accidentally selected the D drive as the drive to partition. Well, it was partitioned but it wasn't formatted. Does this still mean that all my files are gone forever? Can I take it somewhere to get all of the files?

Does partitioning mean that all the files are deleted or killed? Can I use software to recover the files?

I have 5 Gigs worth of data files I really need.

Well, your prayers are appreciated too.

Kareem

Well it doesn’t look good but it may be worth you trying DiskPatch (pre-Windows) and/or iRecover (Windows) at the link below.

A shining example for why one backup set is no backup set.
Next time you want security, you'll want at least three backup sets on independent media.

To supplement Peter's comment, you should also have one of the backup sets offsite. In case there is a fire, flood, or some other catastrophe, you should still have your data. Now if a nuclear missile hits your town, offsite wouldn't help. Of course, you would probably have other things on your mind.
