I am currently using the latest version of Flask and it works well, easy to use and all, but I wanted to know what others use and what the feel are the por/cons to what is out there. Let the opinions and facts fly... PLEASE!
avi2mpeg is fast (so I hear). But I haven't gotten it to function =) I too use Flask, since I have no hurry to anywhere. avi2mpeg can be obtained from www.divx-digest.com, (http://www.divx-digest.com,) along with other encoders you might want to try through =)

I like flask, personally. I tried this other program that is supposed to rip from the DVD, and decode at the same time (so you don't need to copy the whole thing to your hard drive), but it didn't work too well.

I dont encode to Divx, but to SVCD, but i heard about a new program that is supposed to be really nice that some folks are using for Divx. Its called Nandub and you can get it at www.doom9.net (http://www.doom9.net)
Just look on the downloads page. Its not for a beginner though, but if you know a lot about this kind of thing or you are able to read a guide and figure it out, then i would suggest maybe trying it. It "supposedly" makes the best 1 or 2 CD movies you could want...

I have used avi2mpeg for several days, it's fairly fast, but later that week my computer had a 'meltdown' windows stop running, etc.
Personally i don't know if it's from avi2mpeg or what, but just thought i'd let you know http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I think every program using the same divx codec would encode at the same speed. I use flask myself, and with a 900mhz proccessor, i can encode a 90 minute movie in about 4-5 hours.

I have heard abt two kinds of Divx encoder, one being the slow motion one and another is the fast motion. It appears that encoders are chosen pertaining to the content (mostly fast or slow) of the movie.
