Creative FPS2000 Digital 4.1 speaker system are the norm for the speakers I include with computers w/ SB Lives.
Speakers are weak, but thier only $100. Great positional sound, digital...stands, remote volume knob.
Also look into Altec Lansings.

You can definately get better than a 2.1 system. as for "thx" i dont know aobut that lol I would probably go with the dsr-100's from logitech http://www.logitech.com/cf/products/speakers.cfm?49,44
you can check them out there. they have gotten good reviews there a little less than $150 either them or the fps200 like Aura said good luck

I got my Altec Lansing ACS54(4.1) for like $60...and for the money, they are great.
Dont know about using them as an only source for music, but for casually listening to music and for Games they sound really nice.
Scares the hell out of me when I got it turned up loud in CS and an AK blast me at point blank from around a corner.

gonna have to second the ACS54. I even use them for watching DVD's and they work just fine. as for games I imagine they'd be great. And for the price...I got mine for 50 back when buy.com had $10 coupons all over the place...

Cambridge Soundworks.
The set of speakers i have cost around $75 or so, now they are probably cheaper. Good set of speakers, good sound, good woofer, and pretty good bass.

I third the ACS-54's. Good for gaming although they can’t go REALLY loud without distortion. But that’s what Klispchs are for http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

The Creative FPS2000 are made by cambridge I believe.
However, I heard that the Altec Lansing ACS54 speakers are in the same league and much cheaper.
Seems like a wise choice to me.
Theres a 5.1 for around your price range I think...FPS1800 or something.
But I dont know if your a big DVD 5.1 guy. If not, better off getting a 4.1 system for the price.
