ok, so stix formatted my computer b/c there were...many viruses in my computer at the time. He installed a copy of win2k again for me to start fresh.
I came home for summer and I took the computer, turned it on, and it would not turn on. So I switched the hd to slave and put it on my other computer. I formatted it there in windows explorer. Into NTFS and 40somethin kb. Anyway, I took the hd back, put it back to master (the first two poles) and plugged it back on my computer.
I heard the beeps, long, short, short (i dont remember what that means) but the moniter wouldnt go on. So i used the win2k disk so that it would bootup, but the moniter wouldnt flick up. Its not the moniter's fault, because i tried another on it.
What do i do?

Long, short, short is an AGP error. The card is likely loose. Check the memory sticks too.

there is no floppy in the computer. infact, the only disk in the computer is the win2k cd. I formatted the hd from winXP to NTFS.
I put it back in my computer and it doesnt read the cd. it just beeps some time and says NTLDR missing restart.
what should i do

So you booted with the XP CD and formatted the drive? You then completed the first part of setup and got this error on the first restart?
I need a step-by step rundown on all that you did. I need to know what brand of HDD you have and I have to know whether the drive is connected to a standard IDE port or a special (RAID) controller.
I also need to know what your boot sequence is.

you may need to set the partition active with fdisk or a third party utility.

quantum fireball 30gb 7200rpm ATA100 by itself
1. the quantum was removed from my computer (A) and put into my parents computer. (B)
2. the hd was put in as slave (second grouping on those bar things as stix showed me) in B. i might have been wrong but it worked.
3. I used the windows explorer in B to access my hd, which was labeled as F:/
4. I rightclicked on the drive and selected format
5. I selected NTFS, 4096 bytes, NOT quick format and started it.
6. After about 20 minutes, it was done, and everything on the hd was removed.
7. I took the hd back, put it back to master (first two bars. as it was in A) and put it back in A.
8. I started up A with hd in it and put in the win2k cd (full) that stix gave me.
9. After several beeps the computer goes to a blank screen and says, "NTLDR missing. CTRL + ALT + DEL to restart"
now, I have no idea to put an operating system into this hd.

Change your location in your profile, wise guy. I'm serious.
Don't start the Win2K CD with a floppy. Just boot from the CD.

"After about 20 minutes, it was done,"
THats a real long time to format a little 30gig drive in windows. DOS I can see but windows flies at formatting. Yes even full format.....Like BPB said-start up with ONLY the cd! If it wont boot with just cd then make sure in bios that your setup with cdrom as first boot device. If that is confusing just ask for more detail we'll help ya.:t

CA,
What did you do between the time I fixed it and the time you got home. I don't even remember you using it. What happened?
Ok.
I want you place the CD (if you still have it) in the drive, boot to it, and do a fresh install. Complete with format and setup. Make sure you have your drivers ready. Do not install anything but Windows, and the necessary hardware. No extras just yet. I think the in-Windows format you did may have not completely formatted.
PM me if further help is needed.
