Ok I just installed a combo drive on my wifes computer.

The HDD is a 20 gig 5400 rpm samsung.
When I burn cd's on one of her partitions it looses space as I burn the cd. Ok I think that is normal right?

Anyways after the burning is done the space is not recovered!!

What is going on?

Thanks for the help in advance!!

:p

The CDR program is creating a temporary image on the HDD of the CD being copied.

If you don't like that, select "copy on the fly" or "CD to CD" in the burning program. Make sure that DMA is enabled for both drives though!

You can also check the option "Delete Image after successfull burn" ;)

I never had much luck unless everything was cabled right and I slowed the burn rates - I'd bet with that HDD that your system is a bit older so that might create a few coasters  - I did when I first started with burners and slower systems?

- safest bet is to burn to the HDD - then delete 'the image files when you're done

You open Device Manager and go to the IDE ATA/ATAPI section and then each channel (Primary and Secondary) > Advanced.
