Hey guys, I got a new motherboard, cpu and ram
Here are my specs
Epox 8RDA+
XP 2500+ Barton
2x256mb Crucial DDR400
WinXP Pro SP1
GForce4 420MX 64mb PCI
-------------
My Game plays rather smoothly then it starts to get a bit choppy, the thing is that it kicks in and out.
Another problem that I don't know if it's related or now, but on my nForce Tray Options when I kick on GTA VC, it sets me up as only having two speakers and the sound gets funky until I set it back up as 4 speakers.
All drivers are up to date and the game is patched.
so what do you guys think that is wrong? :p
TIA

Hve you tried uninstalling, then reinstalling Vice City?

Yep, won't budge. :(
Kinda funny, ran better with my XP1800+ right, but that one had 1GB of ram, this one only has 512, but then again, it always only used about 300mb of ram system wise

OK how about dx 9? You need that for vice city. Though it is not a true dx 9 game. Also make sure aa and af are off.:t
"when I kick on GTA VC, it sets me up as only having two speakers and the sound gets funky until I set it back up as 4 speakers"
hehe me too. Its GTA Vice-no other game of mine does it. But if I set both nforce and game to 4 spk. it stopped doing that. Def. a bug in the game. I think its cause the default GTA sound is 2 spk.:t

Close the Nvidia tray option and see what happens.
Also, in the Administrative Tools / Services, disable nvidia driver help.
I was having problems with Vice City locking up, instead of lagging, after disabling this service I haven't had a problem with the game.

I dont think its the hardware itself, as it runs fine and dandy for me on very similar hardware. In the game options make sure that the frame limiter is enabled and Vsync is off.

Play, you're supposed to play the game:p I usually just run around fragging people. Then run from the cops. Steal a car or bike, jump a ramp, land on someone, get chased again.:D
Its kinda funny after you steal someones money, cause when the medics show up and revive that person, then that person hits you a couple of times and runs off.

I even tried it without a the trainer, hehe, what? sometimes you just want to start sniping out people and not get chased :D
but no go.
Man I can't wait to get my new video card. I was thinking on getting the FX 5600 but in Tom's hardware I saw that the Ti4800SE outperforms the FX5600

........but the FX5600 supports DX9 features, something that the Ti4800SE doesnt. Get the FX5600, it will last longer beacause of it's DX9 support.
Cheers :t

I'd go with a Radeon 9500+
They're outperforming the 5600's. Unless you have the money for a 5900. . . now that would be sweet :-)
As far as memory, the game will run just fine on 256. I played on 256 with a Radeon 7500, as well as on a laptop with 512 and a Radeon Mobility M6. I don't know anything about NVidia glitches, but your specs are fine. I've got a friend that runs it without any problems on a GF4 Ti4200. I'd almost say it's the Trainer. I don't know, but maybe VC has checks like RCT2 has, that detect cheats. I think that's dumb, since it's not multiplayer, who cares if the person wants to cheat?! It might be the NForce2 or maybe SP1. I know the game says it's required for XP, but I don't have it. I've installed some of the fixes seperately, but not the whole Service Pack.
You could always do format. . . that usually fixes everything :-)
Albeit, it might be overkill for your circumstances! Good luck!

I am going to do a format. Nero won't burn, it keeps messing up cd's. System starts to hang. After I get my case from NewEgg on Monday, I'm going to format the drive and install XP From Scratch. Just gotta call M$

Don't you love that 'registering'? That's why I use Corp XP. I have legit license, but I just don't like to call the 'gods' and ask for permission to format my computer. If I wake up in a bad mood on a sunday afternoon and just type in format c: - I don't want to have to wait till the office opens on Monday morning!! (I know, I can register online, and I don't know their hours. . . but that's not the point anyway)
