I have an ASUS SP97-V mobo that has a SIS5598 vid controller onboard
My mobo manual ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/sock7/sis5598/sp97-v/sp97v-104.pdf
Two S3 virge cards (both pci): one is GX 4mb and the other DX 2mb
These are listed as compatible in c:\windows\display.txt
Win ME

Now heres the deal... I changed the jumpersa to disable my onboard and no matter what pci slots I put them in, if they are both in when I boot my pc acts like it is booting but no display, Now If I am just using one of the cards in any slot it works just fine. I am possitive that windows isn't picking up the onboard since I changed the jumpers.

I have tried to install 1, reboot, then install the other and no go

I have tried removing both, rebooting, turning off, then installing both and same thing.

I may just be overlooking something???? I can update my bios if that may help, but I am wary of doing it cause the newer bios is a beta.

Please someone HELP

if it wont see it then it probably wont work... usually its very hard to get 2 video cards to work for dual monitors(at least i'm assuming thats what your using it for).
If you going to use dual monitors i'd suggest you just go out and buy a card that has dual monitor capability, most of the cards in the radeon series have dual monitor capability(but you have to buy an DVI to CRT adapter). Also Matrox makes cards that have excelent dual, and even triple monitor support but their not so good for 3d apps... which from the looks of your current cards aren't that big of a deal.

One card must be AGP. If the onboard video is not AGP (prob. isn't), you're out of luck.

Naw - that board is too old. Time to upgrade! :)

my onboard is not agp, this is an AT board, I would get a better system or a better graphics card but I am on a limited budget and would like to make what I've got work. According to Microsoft the two video cards I have will work with this setup and they can both be pci. Now I think that maybe it is the bios??? because my current bios only has the option of setting the onboard as being first or not. I am wondering if I upgrade my bios to the newer beta that asus provides if it will give me more options?????

Perhaps. A BIOS upgrade is a good idea anyway. Try with BIOS set to defaults and the SiS as primary.

I'm trying to flash my bios Bill, but my manual says to go to dos and type format a:/s and when I do it says that it doesn't support /s anymore?? how do I make a startup disk without the autoexec.bat and config.sys??? I tried to do it manually and when I booted it said non system disk

what os are you using? that must be an old manual. just go into windows. right click on the floppy drive and click format. you can choose to put system files on it if you want.

Yupster! It's easy to do in all Windows versions except for Windows 2000. :(

Ok now I finally got this thing tackled. I updated the bios, which is probably good anyways, but the problem was that I didn't have an IRQ left to us for the second video card, So... since My printer is USB I just disabled the LPT port lol

Looks like I don't need to upgrade yet. Well maybe, lol.

I got too much stuff added on to this thing. but it's always been reliable. Thanks for all the help guys:t
