O.K. Here's the senario.Got the case,hd, ddr2100 memory 3 sticks up to 756mb,4oow ps, new xp2600+ 266fsb processor t-bred ver B and old geforce 2 vid card.Volcano 11+ hsf and 36x12x48 cdrw.
Looking for the best mobo to put this together and clock the devil out of it to use till either the opteron 64's come out and come down in price and or the new magnetic memory comes out.
I intend to clock the #### out of this with what I've got with a possible memory change and maybe a vid card although that's not a high prority with my comp uses.
Who's got the best board with the best bang for the dollar for this initial setup:t :t

If extremem overclockign is your bag, then the Epox 8rda+/8rda3+ or Abit NF7-S v2.0 are amazing overclocking boards with excellent onboard feature sets. If overclockign is not such a big priority, the Asus a7n8x is a decent board with an amazing array of onboard features

VERY impressive results on the Ut2003 benchmark IMO, i dunno if i would take one over my beloved 8rda+, but i would definitley consider it alongside the a7n8x Deluxe

I read the leadtek review. Pretty impressive plus I liked the mention of easy to mount features.:)

Just remember that there are only 4 usable PCI slots!

I've found the nforce 2 layout to be an absoloute joy to use compared to other boards ive used, the only grumble i had was on a particulalry shoddy and generic case i once put my beloved 8rda+ in, the drive bays were so clumsily positioned i actually managed to spark a RAM stick off them
Luckily the ram survived *phew*, the only other compalint is the positioning of the ide ports, which, if you use full tower, or even midi cases can be problematic for reaching all your drives.
Other than that, a pleasure to joy with, simplicity itself

Other than the vid card I really won't use over one more pci slot so that's not a problem. Hey did you see the hs on the nb, I wonder if you could mount a fan on that?:r

Great piece of kit those Iceberg's simple to install too, hey a shaky-handed fool like me managed.
(I've had involuntary shaves for as long as i can remember and it can be a pain when dealign with small bits and pieces)

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm gonna look these over and see what I come up with. After that I'll have an xp1800+ to build and sell then I'll sit back and wait till the next upgrade a year or two from now. Like I'll last that long:t

Oh, i dunno, i have a good feeling about my current setup, 8rda+ /w XP2400+ : 2.362Ghz, i think that'll last me a while and it will have to because when i get to uni i wont be abel to afford computer bits

Nonsense! Keep the booze costs down and you'll have some cash free for upgrades. It's called a student loan ;) :D

Found a Leadtek proII for around 80.00 and a pro at 45.00 so far
You have to be careful not to pick a version without the cpu mutipliers it seems. Some came without them. Also looking at the MSI 7n board the islr model. Any of you had experience with them? The price looks good on them too but I'm not looking to buy any built in problems. Spent enough time straightening out ecs boards.

No major issues on the MSIs - just the usual memory compatibility problems of the nForce2.

Actually the newer bios revisions on the K7N2 series seems to have cleared up alot of the memory compatability issues on those boards. I personally was rather tweaked at some of the issues after I bought one of those boards. But with the latest bios revision this board has got XP pro flying and totally stable.
