640? what size modules are you trying to install? 2 256s and a 128?

sounds like you bought high density pc133 sdram for at least 1 module. The 6163 is a 440bx board, I think. you would need to run pc100s. if they are 128mb, the module should have 8 chips. if they are 256mb, then the dimm should have 16 chips.

No BX motherboard can use more than 512MB RAM. :(

According to this, the BX can use up to a Gig.

From the MSI website:

* Supports a maximum memory size of 348MB (8M*8) or
768MB (16M*4) registered DIMM only

Weird. I always thought it was 512MB no matter what. I guess that registered DIMMs allow higher numbers.

Anyway, the difference in use between 640MB and 512MB isn't worth mentioning.

True Dat.

I know the 810/815s are limited to 512.

BTW, kendrick, what OS are you running? I wouldn't run more than 512 if you have win9x.

As stated previously, the board only supports 384MB RAM officially. If I were you, I'd leave it alone. Consider yourself fortunate.
