I have been doing a few searches on Google and the like, trying to find some links to backup software.

A friend of mine works in a small architectural office - 3 PC's, one win95, 2 win98, networked. They have at least a gig, and probably more of files, some of which have been sitting there for about four or five years, and NO BACKUPS.

They are getting a CD burner, so I said I would check out their options for setting up regular backups.

Who knows of a good, fairly basic utility for doing backups? Most likely just a few small data files each day - once they have archived off all the old stuff that is.

Every time I do a search, I get links to either big commercial packages which are probably to complex ( and expensive ) for these people to consider, or to software for other platforms.

It kind of seems like no one is really interested in backing up PCs!

Thanks for you interest - Alex

I use Plextors CD Res-Q. It came with the burner and I backed up 4+ gigs on three cd-roms. It only took about 20 minutes total and you can use it as a boot disk to totally restore the drive. It even repartitioned a drive to the original state after one of my clients was naughty.

ahhh who wants to back stuff up? That seems to take all of the fun out of it. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Your'e exactly right, Mike, those of us who consider ourselves to be at least reasonably "computer literate" usually don't worry to much. The most excited I usually get is when I am about to format, and am going through my **** sorting out what to burn to CD. ( sad isn't it? )

Which is also exactly the reason why I have little or no idea of what is a good way to go about setting up a regular backup "regime".
