I plan to but a new M/B this week, and wanted to get some advice on the best choices.
SYS SPECS:
-AMD Athlon 1.2GHz (266MHz FSB) Socket A CPU
-3DFX Voodoo 4500 32mb PCI
-Avance Logic ALS4000 WDM sound card/w Gameport
-Linksys 10/100 ethernet card
-HP CDRW+ 9100
-3.5 floppy
-WD 40GB HD
-Toshiba 2mbps External Modem
-512MB SDRAM PC133 or DDR ??? If $$$ permits
I need help on Motherboard choice.
Thanks

I'd go with MSI....
GO with DDR becuase it is faster and at times cheaper.

This is fine:
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?DEPA=&submit=Go&description=N82E16813130419
Get memory for it from www.crucial.com:
http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.asp?Mfr%2BProductline=MSI+%28Micro+Star% 29%2B+Motherboards&mfr=MSI+%28Micro+Star%29&cat=RAM&model=MS-6570+%28K7N2-L%29&submit=Go
Get the PC3200.

Since your video card looks to be a bit dated, I'll suggest something based on the nForce2 chipset with integrated video. For example the MSI K7N2G-L. You'll need DDR, but PC2700 should be good enough, especially running in dual channel mode. Don't bother with SDRAM now, it will limit future usability too much.

Agreed: Any major brand mainboard on the nForce2 chipset. Buy an AGP video card. If you're into gaming, avoid any nVidia MX cards; go with a GeForce4 4200, < $120.

You're not budgetting optimally.
You already purchased a nic, which may come with a mobo, very likely.
You already got pc133, which rarely any board of that cpu supports. I DO NOT recommend the stupid ECS K7sdfads. You'll likely get a mobo and throw away the sdr and get DDR.
btw, what HSF u be using? Shop wisely because quiet athlon fans are rare.
good luck

I will say this once more. I have built upwards of 15 K7S5As and never had one single failure. That is a better record than any other make of motherboard for me. As far as I'm concerned, ECS makes the best budget motherboards on Earth.

Because the guy is on budget and already bought PC133. The only board I know that meet the 2 things is ECS k7. Make sense?
