I just installed the game Vietcong on my other computer. It is a 2.4GHZ 512MB DDR, 80GB computer with integraded graphics and sounds (I know...) Anyway. I have Vietcong on the computer that I am on now, which is a 1 GHZ 315MB SDRAM, 40GB computer. The game runs well enough on here I guess, but when I put it on my other computer, it runs much smoother, but the graphics look terrible! I mean HORRIBLE!! I dont know what the problem is. Im new to all of this gaming stuff. I have it set on Full Screen, 1024x768, 85HZ (??) and so forth, the same settings I have set on this computer and it works on here. Ive attached a file that is an actual screen shot I took of it while playing. Pleaaaaaaase help me out, I need it terribly. Thanks.

No much you can do for ON-BOARD video cards

they are usually of very low quality

consider Turning the On-Board off, then Install an AGP or at least a PCI video card

Yes but this computer I am on is onboard and this computer sucks! I read elsewhere that it mightt be I need to switch somethign in my settings from Fix Textures in Video Memory to Textures in System Memory. Also, the onboard video cant be that bad. I mean this looks HORRIBLE! Ive watched DVDs on it and they look perfect to my eye. I will try switching that setting in the morning. Any more suggestions?? And I will be picking up a PCI vvideo card soon.

you can try installing Direct X 8.1b or Direct X 9.0a

also Re-installing your VIDEO drivers for the chipset on-board

other than that, no much you can do :t

What a waste? That new computer can play anything but the graphics will suck big time. Because of the integrated sound and video! Everything is gone to waste!

Onboard video isn't that bad, it's bad, but not that bad.

I would suggest that the either
a) your mobo drivers need updating
b) your graphics need updating
c) your sound drivers need updating
d) you have a mapping problem (IRQ's MAYBE)
e) your intergrated memory is set wrong. How onboard graphics work is by commendering some of the systems RAM and using that, so if the system RAM is full or the mobo isn't set to use much you will get terrible graphics.

Head into the BIOS and tell us what you see, also whats the make of your board, do you know? It would be very handy for us to know the chipsets and what not.

Does Vietcong has resolution problem? My monitor is stuck with 800x600 and Rise of Nations can't be played on that resolution. What a waste!

I believe it's the same machine he discusses here (http://www.sysopt.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=139262), a Sony. It's got onboard Intel 845GV graphics, which I agree with DocEvi1 shouldn't be performing *that* badly. Definitely drop the game resolution though...

how on earth did you come to that conclusion? There must me be multiple choices of mobo using the intel chipset for the P4?

Read my post again, there's a link to one of drummerphil's previous questions. In that post he includes a link to his machine, a Sony VAIO Digital Studio Desktop.

that video chip is not made for games, if lucky it can pass those Direct X bench tests

i bet with 3DMarks 2001 se it doesn't even get over 500 :p

As a general rule onbaord video isnt very good for gaming at all, as an even more general rule its absoloutley rubbish for playing recent releases at decent resolutions, such as Vietcong at 1024x768

I fixed it. I switched it from Fix Textures in Video Memory to Textures in System memory, still on 1024x768 and the game runs perfectly smooth. You say the computer is a waste, but I did not buy the computer for games, I bought it for video editing and it works GREAT for that. Anyway, thanks for the replies guys....:t

Ideally it shoudl be set to fit in Video memory, but due to the shortcomings of onboard video your having to store it in system memory. Overall this leads to more system overhead and slower gameplay than you would experience with a decent 3d card on the system. If it works good for you though, then it cant be all bad :)

Textures in Video Memory = RAM in the video card only

Textures in System memory = AGP Aperture Size = Use RAM off your CPU for video = SLOOOOW

I don't know if my version is screwed or something, but the load times dropped to about two seconds max (and before they were like 8) when I went to system memory instead of using video memory, and I have a 9700 pro.

It says in the manual, if your card (or onboard uses) uses more than 32mb to set it to system memory and if it is less to set it to video memory.

I really don't get it, but that's how it is.

Can Vietcong be played or seen on 800x600 resolution? My monitor can only support that resolution.
