I would like to buy a new computer system in the next couple of weeks. I know what I want but don't want to build it myself. Can anyone suggest reputable resellers that sell customizable/non-proprietary systems with quality parts. The only site I have looked at thus far is ABS Computers, which looks workable but I would like to do some price comparisons. If anyone has dealt with ABS please let me know how it went. Any advice would be greatly appreciatd.

Hi Larann- Are you adamant about not building it yourself? You can get twice the system at half the cost doing it yourself, and it really is not that difficult. There are tons of good sites with step by step info on building your own PC, and particular problems can be addressed in this (and other) forums. I build at least one machine a month for friends, associates, and/or family members, and I can tell you that for your own personal use, it's very satisfying using a machine you built yourself. You know exactly what you have, and YOU set the standards for quality! I know this doesn't really answer your question, it's just food for thought :-)
Good luck.

Hi, Larann! You will get a better ideal if you do on your own. There are several websites that have a tutorial "how to build computers". It is interesting because you can keep quality control of all the components. Please, check the links from the main menu. In addition, one of my favorite websites is www.pcguide.com. I like to buy parts from www.pricewatch.com because you have plenty of choices in terms of prices and distributors.

Suggest you check out:
www.resellerratings.com
This site is great and part of sysopt.com.
I never buy a part or system without first checking this site. I don't think you will like what you read about ABS. There are lots of great dealers out there, just make sure you pick the right one.
aw
Just in case you decide to try it yourself, the September issue of Maximum PC magazine has an 8 page tutorial in it.
Otherwise, check with local shops or try to find someone willing to build it. If local options don't work, check with Russ at CompuCheap. Best reputation I've seen.
