Couple of things i need explaining, please.

First one is that I have been using MS access 97 for a while now, since 1997 even.

So I treats myself to the new super duper Xp version. First thing I try to do is print a set of mailing labels, from an address book table of six hundred line entries. I then goes to the report section and shock, absolute horror, no mailing list report. I mean you used to have every Avery type to chose from as well!!!

Even worse, activate help, put in "mail list" and it draws a complete blank!!! Anyone help me out?

Second and even dumber question concerns MS works. I got sent an wdb file by email and no way could access open it. I mean which company makes these products for God's sake. I had to install MS works, I feel totally unclean!!!

End my stupidity, tell me how to get access to import/convert the database.

the new Office XP includes an array of Import tools, try and see if those works for you

By the way, they are not installed by Default

so you need to go run SETUP again and select MODIFY and then pick all the stuff from the last 2 branches, and probably all the stuff from the MS Access branch

The only thing missing is "alternate user input" ie, "speech" and "handwriting" everything else is on, full install.

and what about the labels, where did they go?

how are you opening the file?

double click

or

File
Open Database, then selecting the file

then asking you what to do with the fields?

double clicking opened up the "open with" dialog and if you then choose Access to open the wdb file it promply crashes. All microsoftphiles please take note. (of course double clicking now opens up Works)

If you try to open within Access you get the same crash.

If you export from Works into a dbiii file and try to open/import to access you get an "can't find indexing file" error and it closes.

I can get the table data into access by opening Works, copy and pasting into excel, and then importing to Access, but FOR GODS SAKE SURELY MS PRODUCTS CAN AT LEAST TALK TO EACH OTHER

sorry bout that, lost it for a mo there, every time i think MS is beginning to act like they didn't have an monopoly, they somehow manage to prove me wrong. Again, my apologies.

:p

no worries, we totally understand :D

yeah, well back to your file

so it seems like it lost the Index somehow

does it happen the same with all the other Access DB you tried to import?

or it was only that one?

Any Works wdb file gives the same result, no import to Access. Sad really.
