BryanM 06-16-2003, 05:48 PM putting on win 98 then upgrade to xp pro Midknyte 06-16-2003, 05:55 PM so you're running fdisk to partition and format the drive? did you try using the disk utility that came with the drive? what kind of hdd is it? Midknyte 06-16-2003, 05:56 PM read this too: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q263044 Bigjakkstaffa 06-16-2003, 06:20 PM Might have to partition it from Fdisk, if thats not what your alreadt doing. XP's built in setup partitioner wont 'do' fat32 above 32gb and thats the work around. --Jakk:t BryanM 06-16-2003, 06:21 PM it only partitions it 12 gb from fdisk Midknyte 06-16-2003, 06:23 PM you still didn't say what brand of hdd. go to the manufacturer's website and download the hdd setup utility. did you read the link I posted? BryanM 06-16-2003, 06:30 PM smasung, it was posted on top i tihnk Midknyte 06-16-2003, 06:34 PM frick. my bad, dude. anyways, did you try the samsung hdd utility? http://www.samsung.com/Products/HardDiskDrive/utilities/index.htm BryanM 06-16-2003, 06:44 PM got it, havn't tried it yet cause i havn't had a chance to format yet. will update you Sterling_Aug 06-16-2003, 07:02 PM Boot up to the WinXP CD and FDISK and format from there. Midknyte 06-16-2003, 07:03 PM winxp won't let him do fat32 for larger than 32gb partitions. rmanet 06-16-2003, 07:46 PM any chance your mobo is having problems with that large a drive? BipolarBill 06-16-2003, 08:30 PM 12GB is an odd number. I would update the motherboard BIOS before I did anything else. sm8000 06-17-2003, 10:02 AM Also, you need the updated fdisk to make partitions larger than 64GB. AllGamer 06-17-2003, 04:00 PM not necessary i used a Win98 bootdisk's FDISK and it automatically made my 160 Gig FAT32 partition without a problem then i went into Win2k/xp to format it now if you did the FORMAT in DOS then it's a funny thing, if you are lucky, you get the whole thing 160 gig (after like 2 days of wait), but if not, you only get like 64 gig after several hours :t SysOpt.com
