i have an Samsung 120 gb hd and i wanna put fat 32 on it, and when i try and partition it, it doesnt partition the complete drive, how do i do it so it formats the complete drive

so you're running fdisk to partition and format the drive? did you try using the disk utility that came with the drive? what kind of hdd is it?

Might have to partition it from Fdisk, if thats not what your alreadt doing. XP's built in setup partitioner wont 'do' fat32 above 32gb and thats the work around.

it only partitions it 12 gb from fdisk

you still didn't say what brand of hdd. go to the manufacturer's website and download the hdd setup utility.

Boot up to the WinXP CD and FDISK and format from there.

winxp won't let him do fat32 for larger than 32gb partitions.

12GB is an odd number. I would update the motherboard BIOS before I did anything else.

Also, you need the updated fdisk to make partitions larger than 64GB.

not necessary

i used a Win98 bootdisk's FDISK

and it automatically made my 160 Gig FAT32 partition without a problem

then i went into Win2k/xp to format it

now if you did the FORMAT in DOS

then it's a funny thing, if you are lucky, you get the whole thing 160 gig (after like 2 days of wait), but if not, you only get like 64 gig after several hours
