I hooked up this brand new computer with a....

ASUS A7V8X-X motherboard. I noticed that in the bios it gives you the option to configure your CPU clock speed. It says that it can be clocked up to 2500MHZ... When i do this it says that i have to set my mother board to JUMPER FREE MODE... Does anyone here have any clue on how to do this? It wasnt stated in the manual or on Asus's official website... any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Athlon XP 2400+ 2000mhz
128MB ATI RADEON 9000 video card
512MB DDR 333MHZ 2700 RAM
80Gig Hard Drive Maxtor (hey its inexpensive...)
LG 52x24x52 CD-RW
Sony 3.5"FDD
Running on Windows XP professional

Have you set the CPU speed to "Manual"? Do that and adjust the "CPU External Frequency" 5MHz at a time. Don't shoot for 2500MHz right off!

"jumper free mode" on my A7A266 was attained by moving one of the small switches on the blue block of 10 dip switches on the MoBo (can't remember which one), failing that; there should be a jumper setting on the Mobo that enables this mode. The Manual should have a breakdown of the Mobo switches and Jumpers.

Asus gave up on the dip switches recently, Strawbs. Thank goodness!

great!
but so far.. I changed the CPU frequency multiple from 15... to 16.5 which gives me 2.2 ghz

If i go any higher then that my System Hangs, and doesnt start.. whats the deal? is 2.2 Ghz the max for my Athlong XP 2400+? Is there anything else that could be done that could raise the CPU clock?
i got the need for speeddd

Thanks for the help its greatly appricateD!

Tony, 15 and 16.5 are the multipliers. Unless you have an nForce2 motherboard, the multiplier should be locked.

Try boosting the CPU voltage a notch and then bring up the FSB 5Mhz at a time.
