Directx

Hello,
Directx bugging me as usual.. I have installed 8.2... didnt work and now directx 9.... still doesnt work. All my software keeps telling me I dont have directx 8.1 or higher????
Dxdiag tells me plainly I do. Is this a problem with the registry or a missing dll file or something.
Any help greatly appreciated as I really dont want to reformat my hd.

What OS are you using?
What graphics card do you have?
Is it safe to assume the software that is telling you to use DX8 is primarily games?

Dont know if I can help but maybe more info might shed some light on this case. ;)

Installed directx 4 times, all my software says it requires 8.1b or above... as you can see from above. I have that... what I need is a computer genius who can tell me what log or reg entries to delete.. save me reformatting my hd. I have deleted directx and tried the regedit 4 times and still cant get my **** software to recognise I DO HAVE IT LOL.
