I am having just a bit of trouble with the USB on my new 8RDA+ (with XP2500, 1GB PC2100). A scanner (Acer S2W 3300U) that works fine on all the other computers just won't reliably show up and when it does show up it won't scan. (Unable to intitalize scanner. Check scanner software and conections."
The very same cable works for other computers and other scanners. I have tried all four of the USB ports and get the same problem. However, Ihave no problems with my printer, USB thimb drive, or my Palm.
I am also finding that this board does not always recogize my external Firewire drives either. Related or totally different issue???

Try the latest nForce2 drivers:

If you didn't install Windows "clean", you'll get these issues.
Install all Service Packs and then visit Windows Update too, John.

This was a pristine install of WinXP Pro on a new drive (WD120) and it's got SP1. I guess I'll have to consider the 29MB d/l for the updated nForce drivers but oh that is painful when you are on a slow connection and pay by the minute. :(

The English driver pack is only 10.9MB:

Oh - be sure to unplug all USB and 1394 devices during the driver update.

I'm downloading it as I write. In just a few hours I will have it in hand and can try installing it. ;)

Okay Bill, I need some of your magic USB advice. No change with the new nForce drivers. Whether I hookup the scanner direct or through a hub, I get the ding dong sound when I plug it in but the same error message whenever I try to scan. (I am using the WinXP WIA driver if that makes any difference.)
The 1394 drives get seen if I plug and unplg several times until I hear the chimes but eveidently it sees the scanner, it just cannot initialize it.
BTW - all of my USB devices are still 1.1 (altho my wife's new USB 2 scanner is quite nearby and if she turns her head for a few minutes...).

Are there any errors showing in Device Manager?
Do you have specific drivers for this scanner in XP?

No errors in Device manager and no specific drivers. However, in the meantime I hooked up to my wife's Epson 1660 and installed the Epson driver software. (Wow is that USB2 baby fast!) Then, I unhooked her Epson and hooked up my funky little Acer NOW it is working. The Epson installer must have installed something that made the Acer happy??? I just hope it scans after I restart. :D
