I was messing about with my BIOS settings yesterday before a reformat, and found one labelled "Enhanced ATAPI Performance". Seeing as it was disabled, I enabled it - I liked the sound of performance enhancing :D XP Pro installed without a hitch, but SP1 BSODed about a fifth of the way through. I forget the exact error message, it had something to do with kernels and pages - the driver mentioned at the bottom of the screen (which was presumably responsible) was atapi.sys. I rebooted, set Enhanced ATAPI thingy to disabled and SP1 started to install fine. Curious, I cancelled it after I had made sure it had passed the point it BSODed at last time, and went back into the BIOS and re-enabled the ATAPI Performance option. XP booted fine, but the SP1 installation ground to a halt with the same BSOD error. Anyone got any ideas 1.) what this option actually does, and 2.) why it seems to disagree violently with SP1? It's a Gigabyte GA-7DXE board - I contacted Gigabyte yesterday, but haven't got anything back yet. Thanks :t

G'day fishybawb
Before XPsp1 came out there were about 5 different driver
options for ACPI settings and the best setting wasn't always
installed.There's an article Here (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/e_service/forum/thread.php?threadid=2000&boardid=16&styleid=1)

BUT after you put XPsp1 on your system,You only get one driver and no choice and it's optimised so your bios setting maybe upset things...
Just a theory but see what you Think....
Cheers lonfa
Edit:I've got to learn to read right...ATAPI...ATAPI!!!!!
NOT ACPI...Not ACPI..(Now write that 100 TIMES!!! lonfa )
Sorry Mate!:(
