I was messing about with my BIOS settings yesterday before a reformat, and found one labelled "Enhanced ATAPI Performance". Seeing as it was disabled, I enabled it - I liked the sound of performance enhancing :D XP Pro installed without a hitch, but SP1 BSODed about a fifth of the way through. I forget the exact error message, it had something to do with kernels and pages - the driver mentioned at the bottom of the screen (which was presumably responsible) was atapi.sys. I rebooted, set Enhanced ATAPI thingy to disabled and SP1 started to install fine. Curious, I cancelled it after I had made sure it had passed the point it BSODed at last time, and went back into the BIOS and re-enabled the ATAPI Performance option. XP booted fine, but the SP1 installation ground to a halt with the same BSOD error. Anyone got any ideas 1.) what this option actually does, and 2.) why it seems to disagree violently with SP1? It's a Gigabyte GA-7DXE board - I contacted Gigabyte yesterday, but haven't got anything back yet. Thanks :t
