Hello, I have a question about my computer. A few days ago I was just playing a game and my computer froze, and im just like whatever reboot right? But, then the computer then didnt boot up at all the monitor doesnt detect anything and i cant see anything. The HD's, Videocard, RAM etc are all fine since i tested them in my secondary computer so it must be one of the main components (mobo , cpu) But, before i go and buy a new one i need to figure out which one is broken or maybe both? please let me know how i cud find out, if there is a way?

Consult your motherboard on how to clear CMOs, do so and see if that solves the problem. If not it sounds liek somthings well and truly up zee creek

Here is what i found on that...? Is that what your talking about
K7S5A lost CMOS issue Hits:24777
Question
We have been getting some feedback from the field that K7S5A PCB 3.X is always experiencing lost CMOS issue. Besides the battery is more than 3.3V, the clear CMOS is set to normal and there is no other card install in the system except AGP card.
Answer
Please update to BIOS V02/10/29.

For now just clear CMOs, loook in your motherboar dmanual, its a case of temporarily moving a jumper and then returning it to its default position. This loads the BIOS default settings and 9 times out of 10 cures any non-post related issues

"Always"? ROTFL. I've seen one in two years time that did that - bent battery contacts up a bit and it never happened again.
Besides, if this happens it does boot alright - it'll complain about lost CMOS settings and prompt you to enter setup, but it does fire up.
First things to check on a now dead board that was unreliable before is power supply and processor cooling.

It's the CPU most likely. I have had this problem when I had my other Pentium 4 2.4ghz chip. I was running a program, forgot which one and it just froze on me. I rebooted and then the monitor screen was blank and my system would not boot (usually hear an audible "beep" when all systems are go and it's ready to boot the OS). I didn't know what the deal was either...i thought it might be my new ATI 9700 Pro that I got and it was bad...so I sent it back and got a new one...still nothing. Then I thought it was my mobo...got a new one, put it all together and still nothing...then I knew it must have been my cpu...so I tested in my brothers rig and his did not boot either...needless to say I was kicking myself for not trying that first  . Anyway, if you can test your cpu in a friends computer or on the other system you have, try doing this first. The cpu will most likely be the cause. Hope this helps...

teebor, after you moved the jumper to clear CMOS, be sure to return it back to its original position

It's essential that you UNPLUG the PC before you clear the cmos.
Then return the jumper to the run position before you plug the power back in. This is a critical issue on these particular boards as you can screw up the board by leaving the power plugged in.

In all likelihood, it's your cpu. Why don't u tell us which amd cpu?
It's a bit harder to blow up a board, even one crappy as the K7s5a (though I manage to do once :))
Be sure not to jab the board with the screwdriver when you're messing around.

if the CPU was not OC-ed before it died
then i'll say just get a new Mobo, else test the CPU on another friends Mobo and see

Give me some info and I could walk ya thought it.
FSB speed (RAM CLOCK SPEED) 100mhz/ 112mhz/ 124mhz ?
Mutiplier (4.5x/ 5x/ 5.5x)?
Core Voltage (2.2 2.5 3.0)?
And ofcouse Your M/B name.
Those beeps during post mean something. Try here (http://www.sysopt.com/biosbmc.html) for the AMI BIOS beep errors. First thing to do is a "naked boot". ie. Disconnect all EIDE devices, floppy drive, all PCI cards, and graphics. Also remove all DIMMS, so the only thing your powering up is the mobo and cpu.
Now with AMI BIOS for example 5 beeps indicates cpu failure.
1 beep is memory; try puting these back one at a time, till you get 1 long + 2 short beeps. This is now telling you the graphics is in trouble. Of course it is so put it back in, connect the monitor. If after boot all is now ok, then put the PCI cards back in one at a time, because if a BUS is hung, then nothing happens.
Before you try all this, be sure to take the good advice and reset CMOS. Sorry to repeat but, Please disconnect the power to the PC, then move the jumper, count to 10, then move it back. I repeat this as failure to do this Will damage your mobo. Obviously these codes are BIOS specific, so anyone trying this will have to get the correct codes. ;)
