Sorry, but the only way to record DVD is with a DVD-R. And the only one that I know of that is "affordable" is the Pioneer DVR-A03 (http://www.micropace.com/Products/PNR/5004.htm) . It sells for round $1000 and installs just like a regular CDRW drive.

I say "affordable" because the DVD-R media is about $30-35 per disk, but you can fit 4.7Gb on each disk.

Of course there is always DivX ;-), near dvd-quality @ tiny sizes.

Burning dvds is impossible (they don't fit in 4,7gb media).
But you can convert them into various formats for burning. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/en/WM8/encoding.asp?FinishURL=%2Fdownloads%2Frelease%2Eas p%3FReleaseID%3D28886%26redirect%3Dno

I've heard that you can burn DVD's with a cd burner. Anyone know how this is done or where I can go to find out?

You can burn a Video CD that will play in most DVD player with Roxio Easy CD Creator 5. I haven't had any luck with it because the orgitinal movie has to be or changed to exact sizes and compressions.

Either way it's still not a DVD.

when u already talk about divx, and watching it, i have one question: is the quality of divx worse if i watch it on my tv (through a graphic card with tv-out)?

what do u think about ati xpert 200 pro? i wanna buy it, because it's cheap and has tv-out. any experience?

I always go with DivX http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
It's close enough for me http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Although then the DVDs you burn will only work with a computer, never on a regular DVD player http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
