Was repairing an old IBM Aptiva model 2176 P166. Had flashed the bios fine. After the setup, it goes to a full screen floppy icon and stays there. It has two arrows pointing to F1. What does this mean?

logically, it would mean to put in a boot floppy and press f1 to continue. not too sure what other cryptic message IBM might have.

Have done that. Inserted a startup disk and press F1, nothing happened. It'a a floppy icon in black screen with F1, F2, F3, etc. where F1 has two blinking arrows. Can't get to detect the hard drive even if I use several drives for testing.

That means that the hard drive is not recognized by the BIOS either due to not being plugged in, not partitioned and formated, or a dead hard drive.

Yep. Am halfway now. I changed the edoram to ibm stickered edo and the floppy controller now recognized my startup disk. Seem IBM does not want any other edoram. Have to get the harddisk be recognized....:)
