Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : How fast does Word load?

I want to check if my PC is running as fast as it should be.

After booting up, leaving whatever files you have running in the background as they are, how long does it take for Word 2000 to load? This should be on a Windows ME machine.

Thanks,

Jon

On WinME, running OFfice97, I kid you not, I can't tell you how fast Word loads--less then a second, I'd say.

System:

AMD Duron 700 @ 900
128 meg PC100 RAM
7200 RPM HDD.

Why don't you just download some benchmark program, and compare your marks to those of people with similar systems? That should help you to see if you have some sort of bottleneck in your system.

1 second for me on 98Lite! (800MHz Athlon Classic @ 860MHz.)

Have you tried aligning your *.exe's and *.dll's? That helped speed mine up.

some of those numbers are not consisant
one guy's got a 1.3ghz 256 ram and takes him 4 sec while alot of others got less than 1ghz, less ram and load faster. hmmmm

Differences can exist due to hardware settings or even OS customizations. For reference (plus because I'm sitting in front of it right now), even my P3 650e notebook with a mere 64mb of memory can load Word2K in WinME in well under 3 seconds, and about 1 second for cached loading. Then again, I have stripped the OS down to core components, plus have implemented a wide variety of registry and file system tweaks for maximum performance.

Catch ya' later,

About 2.5 secs for Word 2000 on W2K with an celeron 2 @ 850, but a fairly slow 6.4G ATA33 5400 hard drive.

Actually, I was fairly surprised how fast it did load on this machine http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Loaded word 2000 in 2 seconds. Win98 with 256 meg on a BX chipset. P3-933EB with raid 0 also.
I also have 7 other programs running in the back ground.
