Hi, I plan to buy the EPOX 8RDA+ Motherboard and A Barton2500, the fsb on the Barton is 333, I only have PC2100 memory and that is 266, am I going to run into some problems with this? or will the memory still work as 266?

1 stick is 256mb kingston
1 stick is 512mb kingston
and the other stick is 128mb crucial

if anybody knows if I will have any trouble I'd greatly appreciate the input before I spend this money, thanks.

It will still function as 266 yes, however i dunno if it would make it to 333/166 for the CPU's FSB. It's worth giving it a go. However if the machine wont post/remain stable at 333/166FSB RAM would be the first suspect on my list

you would need a board that can run the memory async from the cpu fsb. I would highly recommend that you invest in some good quality pc2700 or 3200 ram if you go to a 333mhz fsb based cpu.

Dennis

If nothing is defect, your rig will run. It's just that it won't be optimal because your memory is the bottleneck .

That's my finding.

to put it another way, if you can run the fsb at 333 and the ram speed at 266 on that board, you'll be ok, aka async. if not, then you'll have to get pc2700 ram at least to run at 333mhz.

Get new RAM. It's cheap.

All I know is that I wouldn't put that wimpy PC2100 **** in my Barton system!
