Hello world,

One of my 8.4 gig samsung drives just died. Leaving me with only 8.4gig of total space left.

So I was wondering which hard disk drive people like better, the

20G Quantum Fireball Plus AS 7200rpm HDD

or the

20Gb IBM Deskstar 60GXP 7200rpm HDD

Thanks for any opinions.

I generally recommend IBM drives for most new drive purchases when dealing with IDE, as they have a superb operating lifespans and great performance with minimal fuss. Atleast this has been my experience. The 60GXP is an excellent series of drives.

Also, this may prove useful:

Good Luck,

IBM has the best IDE hard drives.

A friend of mine had a problem with quantum as it was comsuming too much power off the supply. (He had _alot_ of hardware installed). I had 6,4gb quantum fireball, was a bit noisy for my taste but other it performed extremely well on sandra benchmark.
Using ibm now =)

Thanks for the replies. I think I will go for the IBM becasue they seem to benchmark faster and my dad has the 45gb version. The IBM is $20 more but I think it is worth it.

IBM will give you the best performance. Imagine this situation. My boss has both a 10,000 RPM SCSI and an IBM 7200 RPM ATA100 drive. The IBM can routinely outperform the SCSI drive. I would have never thought that IDE could beat SCSI. Hope this helps,
