Is it possible to play games with 56 k connection.I've been told that players will hate you for disturbing the latency or ping somthing like that I'm not sure.I have CSF2 and I plan to play it in the MSN gaming zone.well,I hope that there's a way to tune a modem for gaming which I'm not sure too.Not a serious gamer so I'll try on 56 K first and see whether I like it before having to pump a lot of money for higher bandwidth connection. Again is there any way to tune a 56 K modem for gaming since people are still using it a lot.
Thanks in advance.

56K is kind of rough for me with online FPS games..
I don't play in public games though, i have a lot of clans, that i play with..
If you want, you can drop me a line, and i can get you in touch with some people that don't mind playing with people with 56K http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
-EDIT- Shouldn't this be in the "gaming" forum?

If you want the best possible 56K connection, get a hardware modem. The latency (ping) of a hardware modem is considerably less than that of a software modem.

Thats true. I usually smoke all the other dialup'ers at ~175 ping. I have a 3COm 2976 PCI 56K Modem.
And you'll only disturb the server only if your connections bad, not slot.
I've been a gamer since about 2-3 years ago with a 56k Modem. It might be more painful for you, since when you do something, it doesnt actually happen til about 200ms-400ms later, but its still very playable.

Oh, of course it's still playable, but a lot of my LPB friends that i play on servers with, have pings normally under 100 That's just too good http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Rock on Aura! Fellow 56k-er here.
I have a PCI US Robotics modem. It is just fine for me (usually). I've NEVER been booted for being laggy. Most people are surprised when I tell them I have a 56k. The only thing is, I can't host with more than about 3 people.
The very slight delay is noticable to me. It is, in fact, one of the few things limiting me in totally kicking a-hole in Rogue Spear http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif. I didn't notice the diff for awhile - until I got good.
You should be fine.

You will be alright with CFS2 I play it sometimes also. Mostly CFS1 it is a faster game. I would say go over to
www.pcpitstop.com (http://www.pcpitstop.com)
and do the internet connection test if it needs help do the auto fix they have. You will be fine then.

a 56k modem should be fine just get a good one. I just saw Zoom model 2925 for $45 recently at office depot. it is an internal PCI hardware modem. I prefer external modems but I've also used this particular modle with much success.
