Baby Arm

Hello,
I have alot of plants in the house, and I've bought a light to supplement the sun. I'm wanting to hang this from some sort of motor so that I can adjust it up and down with the push of a button. I figure I need a motor with 2 chains to hold the light that will need to lift and hold 20 to 30 pounds. Any ideas?

a windscreen motor & arm might do the trick (a luxury cars (i.e. one with big wipers)), or what about a cordless drill,
20/30lbs = 10-15kg, what sort of light is that?
What I would suggest is a pulley system with a winch (i.e. your motor) at one end. When it comes to suspending them, rather than having to use the motor as a lock have some sort of bar/lever that locks it in place?

Could use a 2:1 roping system similar to elevators........... :)
Mind you this could get a bit pricey, when it comes to the control mechanism tho

Go to www.MPJA.com, the have a variety of geared servo motors in about any price and speed you need.
I use their servo motors in one of my apparatus's.:t

This particular motor is a D.C. 12 Volt geared servo-motor. The motor turn at normal speed, probably 1200 RPM but the geared hub travels very slow and is reversible with just a switch.

It's basically a green house light. It has a 400w bulb...hehe it's bright and my dog likes to lay under it because she thinks it's the sun! it has a metal hood around it that makes it weigh alot.
Right now it's on a sort of pulley system, but I have some physical problems that makes it hard to use the pulley manually, that's why I'm wanting to motorize it.
About the servo motors... would I just mount the motor and connect it to rope where I tie it down now? I guess it would come with some sort of up/down button. That would be perfect.
The MPJA link doesn't seem to be working..any other sites to get this sort of thing, especially AC motors? I'll see what io can find on google.

You know, now that you had it sorted out I was going to post a daft comment about "when you grow up and get an adult arm..." but I don't think that would be fair. **** you, you spoiled my joke that I thought would be funny :p (of course I am only joking here!)

Hehe actually my problems involve the legs, not arms (wheelchair..can't stand up). The baby arm name came from a local radio station..kind of hard to explain. For some reason the term 'baby arm' evolved into a kind of greeting or way to say good bye....sort of like 'aloha' in hawaii. God that must sound strange. They even made tee shirts :x

oh well then, you're fair game :p
Thats what I love and hate about the internet, you have no idea what the person is on the other end of the screen & I don't really want to offend anyone...tis difficult to take the michael sometimes.
