I just finished putting together a new system, not totally state of the art, but something I'm proud of nevertheless. What new games are there that can really test my system? DoomIII? Postal2? Will these test a system to the max?

AMD 2200
1 gig HyperX RAM
GForce 4 128 Meg Video
120 Gig Hard Drive

Doom3 will bring it to its knees, no offence ;)
Also, you didn't specify what exact videocard do you have ...

"Enter the Matrix" gives me 30+ fps on 1GHz T-Bird+GF3Ti200 @1024
3DMark03 should do the work ;)

Enter the matrix wont do a lot, it runs on my gf4ti4200 64mb at high res and detail settings smoothly. UT2003 with AA, anisotropy and high-res is probably a good game to use.

Try the Codecreatures (http://www.codecult.com/) benchmark if you want to see what tomorrow's games will do to your setup ;)

Try morrowind on the max resolution settings and further distance draw settings. If you really want a challenge turn on FSAA 4X+ and pray :D

Splinter Cell would be a good game, VERY demanding! :x

Serious Sam 1 or 2 despite having been out for awhile is a great raw performance benching pair, and look brilliant.

Another vote for Morrowind. I may have a similar rig : 2200+, G4ti4600, but only 256Meg & 2 40GB harddrives. But that's one nice looking game if you can crank up the details. Full shadows, 8xAF, 4xAA, full game details -- your rig will choke.

NOLF2 would bench your rig well, and for only $20.

How about Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 -- that will run nicely on your system and look good too. $20

Vietnam's based on the Unreal engine, & supposedly needs power.

Basicly any game that's come out in the past year....

I second NOLF2...this game was so well made, anyone who hasen't played should pick it up.

You can try Splinter Cell or wait for Doom 3. I used C&C: Generals and Splinter Cell to test my upgraded PC. Not bad!

It will run everything out there at 1280x1024 at 30 FPS I'd imagine - with the effects though you may need to drop down a size or two to use them at full effect (which may make things look worse for AA even though it's running higher at 800x600) with your vid card. The processor should run everything out there and should meet or beat DOOM 3's recommended specs. Just your card wouldn't be fully compliant (and most people's won't so don't worry - just missing out on eye candy, still can play the game).

EDIT: I used C&C Generals, MW4:Mercenaries (as it's programmed very strictly to D8, so if somethings wrong, i will generally lock or crash even though it isn't super demanding), Morrowind, and used MOHAA and NOLF2 as benchmarks to see my gains as I remembered my fps for those - so you could say I tested it with those as well.

With all the **** I have in my computer I think I should invest in a broadband connection again - as I'm not d/ling 3D mark on 56k.

MW4:Mercenaries? That's quite old!

Yes it is, but for Direct X apps it will generally keel over, even the first MW4 and expansion. For some reason the way it's coded, if your system isn't stable it will let you know by locking up or crashing. Best thing for O/Cing video cards, as two minutes in that game is equal to about 2 hours in most others as it's so particular. I don't get it, but that old game does work better than the newest games for finding problems, especially with graphics.
