Okay, go to START, then SETTINGS then CONTROL PANEL. Double-click on the SOUNDS icon. The box that it brings up lets you assign sounds to a number of different system events. To change your startup sound (Mine is a clip from Young Frankenstein, yelling, "Its Alive!") scroll down to START WINDOWS. Click on it once. You can hit the play button to review the sound that is already there. You can then hit BROWSE to find the sound file you want to use as your startup sound. I assume you already have one picked out, but if you don't, make sure it is in .WAV format.

That should be about it.

u r probably a newbie... (i'm not saying it's bad or anything)... that's why u want stuff like that in windows.... it can be done by the aforsaid method. But ....... it's better not to keep it like that because is u play a song(usually 4+ mins) on startup the system startup time can be increased drastically.... so just try ... (if u still want to) and remove it.... i'm sure u will hate it soon.

Yeah I gotta agree with Vintron, I used to have lot's of different sounds and songs going on start-up and for everything else and after a while the computer started up slow and frankly, it just was annoying.

Hey Kite, a .WAV file is just a kind of sound file like an MP3. Wav is the type that music CD's are made of. They're usually really big though, consider a song in .WAV, if it's 40mb then an equivalent song in MP3 is probaly 3-5mb. You just need a program to convert the file into Wave format so windows can play it. One of the others will hopefully have a good little 'free' program to convert it easy but I use a little prog called MightyDAC. You can get a trial version here http://www.poikosoft.com/dac/

Winamp can decode mp3 to wav. But it's a bit lame to make windows play a whole song at startup, something like 'beep' would be sufficient, if you need to have a song then just open a player and play it with it. Heck, you could just add to startup folder 'c:\program files\windows media player\mplayer2.exe c:\music\<music.mp3>'.

The more junk ya have at startup, the longer it takes.

BTW I just use the "Tada.wav" at startup and shutdown

I still thinks its amusing http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I have an 'entrance theme' and had a nice colorful desktop, Windows 98 SE, seemed to take FOREVER to load up.

I would suggest, if you want a theme, find something fairly short. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Perhaps, but I wouldn't have opened it if you had told me what was inside. Please try to be more informative in your Topic headings.
