Hi there! New thread, new questions :D

I was wondering what would be a good HD setup. In my old computer i have a 6 GB C: (system only) and a 30 GB D: (data & program files).

For my new computer I'm not really sure if I need two seperate HD's, but in my experience i reïnstall the system like every half year or so. I format C when I do this, so I need two drives, either physically or partitioned. But, for some reason I dislike partitioning. Am I right about that or not?

Also, I'm going to be doing heavy graphics, so I'm told I need a fast harddisk. Would that be 7200 rpm? And does cachesize matter, for instance 2 or 8 MB? Any suggestions on brands or models?

How much money can you spare? SCSI is the way to go.

I see you're from the Netherlands. SCSI may cost you quite a bit there.

I would suggest a Western Digital 800JB or 1200JB. I would also suggest partitioning it into three parts - 10GB, 35GB and 35GB. Put Windows on the 10GB part, programs on the next and data (My Documents and such) on the third. Use your 30GB drive to back up your stuff. I like to use Norton Ghost to back up selected partitions for emergencies.

If you go the IDE Route be sure to get a 7200RPM drive with an 8mb data cache

I think scsi is going to be a bit too much....

IDE vs SCSI is $ 100 vs $ 400 and 7200 rpm vs 10000 rpm?!?!
Thats like 400% more expensive for 38% increase in speed... is that really worth it?

Hmm, Western Digital is not carried here, how about IBM, Maxtor or Seagate?

Maxtor then - 8MB cache.

If you are serious about it then SCSI is the best and only choice.:t

And the 15,000 rpm SCSI drives are ALOT faster than you would believe.

If you are just playing then IDE is fine, but slow.

I saw a good jump on loading heavy graphics when I moved to an 8mb cache IDE. Comp boots faster also.
