Guys

Upgraded to windows XP Pro at the weekend from XP home. Have been playing Moto GP2 regularly before with everything pump up (graphics) very smooth and good on the eye. Since going to XP Pro...my graphics seem be sortof jerking and jittering (reminds me of insufficient memory problems). Have run numerous benchmark tests etc. with different settings etc. and seem to be getting decent results ( allthough slightly lower than before with XP home. Is there anything that might be affecting the gaming performance in XP pro that I dont know about..? Anything else that could be causing this..? Am I better going back to XP home..?

Thanks

system:

P4 2.4Ghz (533)
Asus P4B533-V Mobo
1024 DDR333 Ram
Saphire Radeon 9700pro
SB Audigy

There's no difference between Pro and Home in this area. I would suggest uninstalling all ATi software and then reinstalling. Before you reinstall, be sure that you have the latest motherboard chipset drivers, DirectX 9.1 and service pack 1.

Is ATi drivers conflicting with the OS??

What Bill said, except in a different order. WinXP, SP1, chipset drivers, dx9, catalyst driver.

He's repairing, not installing.

thanks for your input....!

I will try a fresh install later...allthough I did it the same way before with DX9.0 (didnt know 9.1 was available) and my orginal INF driver. I will get the latest driver and try that. However...I cant really see what difference its gonna make because I seemed to have everything working ok with same chipset and DX drivers before. As long as I dont have a memory problem...thats the main thing. If this dont work I will try Home again.......what a pain the the ***..!

Cheers

More help....

when I go to intel website to get latest chipset drivers...there is an intel extreme graphics driver for my chipset (Intel 845G). Is this driver for on-board graphics and do I need to install it if I am using ATI drivers..? I am asssuming that the latest INF driver is all I need...right..?

thanks

Just use these:

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/filter_results.asp?strOSs=44&strTypes=DRV%2CARC&ProductID=816&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional&submit=Go%21

...and XP Pro is NOT BETTER than Home. It has some more features than Home that most users will never use anyway. It's money wasted - unless you "share" the software like cbh and his buddies do.

Also - Server is not better than Home or Pro. Once again, it has features than most won't ever use.

For those that never bother to inform themselves (not naming anybody... ;) ), "PRO" sounds better, and is truely misleading.

i went to pro cos I wanted acces to the likes of ....gpedit.msc...for a couple of reaseons. XP home dont allow access to this and a few other devices. Oh ye.....and I had to get rid of that windows messenger sh**. You cant get rid of it in XP home.

Anyway....thanks...away to format and install again...hopefully it is better this time.

Funny - I got rid of Messenger in Home. A stopped the process in Task Manager and immediately deleted the MSMSGS.EXE file in the folder. Gone!

I then searched all drives for MSMSGS.EXE and deleted all instances. There were some in the Service Pack Files folders.

To finish up, I scanned the registry for all mention if MSMSGS.EXE and deleted the keys.

haha.....bipolarbill....thats too advanced for me. Yep....thats one way to do it.
Anyhow....re-installed windows XP ''''Pro''''......and all the drivers that I need in order.....everything is sweet..!
I then installed my ADSL modem drivers which I got last week and hey presto....gaming screwed up again. I think I have a conflict in drivers...ATI and BT Modem drivers. I knew I should have bought another modem. Anyhow...will try and fix this conflict...am using my old modem at present until I find the problem. Time to make another post..!

Thansk for the advice people....superb site this is..!

Why don't you let the Windows install the default drivers for you and see what happened?
