I have a plexwriter 8/4/32, and I make 2 or 3 times more coasters than I ever seem to make actual CDs. I can't seems to find any sort of consistency for when the computer is going to freeze while burning. It does seem however that if I freshly restart the comp, then open easy CD creator and then burn the CD without running any other programs before burning that I usually get a higher yield rate.
I'm running win2k pro on a pII - 233 system with 64MB simm ram. The only reason that I can imagine that I'm getting so many problems is because there is either
1.not enough ram
2.the computer is too slow to handle an 8x burn rate
regardless, this sucks, and I'm really getting pissed off at it. do any of you have any suggestions for me about what I should do to fix this problem??
thanks

I dont know by the burner specs alone but it might not have burn-proof tech. It slows down the speed of data tranfer if buffer gets to full. what do the required specs say on the back of the burner box?
if it soes not have burn proof however you should be ok if u dont run ANY other programs while u burn make sure all current programs are closed more ram.
I'm using an EIDE Plextor 8/4/32 on my Win2k box and have no problems at all making direct CD to CD copies at 8x. I've made less than 5 coasters since I've purchased this CDRW drive which has been well over a year. One of the cause of your problem may be due to lack of RAM as you've said yourself. Win2k itself is one hungry OS when it comes to memory and it may be leaving such little resource that it's causing the buffer underruns. And no, your processors are not the problem to not being able to burn at 8x. Try some of the following below:
1) Check the mode that the CDRW is on... Try both UMDA and PIO modes. Plextor recommends that you run the CDRW on UDMA mode, but I've seen cases where that causes a problem...
2) Try making an image to the hard disk before you burn to CDRW.
3) Try differnt combinations of IDE channel connections.

There was a similar topic posted on Tech Support which I can't seem to locate right now. I had the same problem, I ALSO have a p-233 w/ 64MB ram. I made several coasters before I finally figured out that the speed I was burning at was just too fast. Buffer underruns were causing the lock-ups.
Next time you choose CREATE CD, Try burning the CD at 4x instead of 8x. Make sure also that you have CD Creator 4.02d which they say fixed alot of bugs.
Since I started burning at 4x I haven't had one fail yet and it only take a little less than a minute per song to burn.
Good luck, send me a coaster if you get it working! Wife keeps telling me to use one, but where the h3ll are they?
