Whenever I start the game "The Sims" it gets stuck at the splash screen. I have a Radeon 9000Pro with the latest drivers.
Any Ideas?

We had same problem. We have SIMS plus 2 expansion versions of the game.

First we found the shortcut we had put on the desktop was causing the problem, so we deleted that and started the game from the disk.

After a couple of hours, it was freezing up again, but not from the splash screen.

We're on Win98SE.

The thing is im starting it from the CD but it still freezes. I think its my video drivers. Ill try a shortcut on the desktop. I also have two expansions.

We still can't run from Start/Program.. menu or Desktop Shortcut, we're having to let the CD auto run feature kick in, or going through My Computer to get at CD Rom Drive and opening that way. It has been very touchy.

We have a very old 3dfx Video Card with all original drivers.

It actually worked O.K. with an ATI Radeon 7500 (again original drivers) Video Card for a few months, but we only had the game plus ONE expansion.

I'm beginning to think that the more expansions of the game, the more trouble...

Yeah i would have to agree with BargainBin on

I'm beginning to think that the more expansions of the game, the more trouble...

My sisters a big sims fan (obviously dropped on her head as a baby) and as im the only computer literate person in the house i install em on her machine. She's now onto addon number four or five and we've had major trouble installing em, in the end i told her to stop wasting my time

Hey GamerBoyFranco WHAT IS YOUR PC SPEC?

you do know it requires a MONSTER pc TO play the SIMS, eh?

also the "SPLASH" screen as you call it, it does takes at least 5 MINUTES !!! even on the fastest PC in the world to load

specially the most ADD ONs you put into it, and the more MODs you add to it

just add and extra minute for every extra The Sims Expansion you install to it, and then 0.1 sec for every free internet add on you download and add to it

on a P2-300 it takes like 30 min to load

on a new P4 or AMD XP takes about 3 to 5 min to load

REGARDLESS of your 3D card

but RAM does matter, have at least 512 MB of ram

:t

I did, for some reason install the sims, it only took 10 secs on the splash screen with my machine :D . But have you checked for scratches and errors on the disc. If you copy the disc, using nero, it will show any errors on the disc. THEN DESTROY THE DISC :D

Remember, just because the disc dosent look scratched it dosen't mean it isnt damaged:t
