I simply cant get this bugger off, ive removed the pins, heated it up and i can wiggle it about some but still stuck

Anyone got anyideas on how to get it off without removing the board from the case?

While im on im after replacing it with a vanteq copper cooler, however when i lookit the mounting pins provided i can see no way of gettign em in due to the large bulge thing near the pinheads, any one point me in the right direction here?

Cheers

You have to remove the board, Jakk. The pins must be removed from below (unless you're willing to cut the heads off).

The Vantec fits fine. I'm living proof. ;)

On anyother day i probably would, but ive had five hours sleep and have just had to heft 50 strips of turf into the back garden on account fo some idiot deliveryman and i havent even eaten yet an its half one :(

Besides that id rather not get onto it until ive figured how to get the pis inbto the vantec :S

Today has not been a good day thus far.

Ah, i think i got it now (braindead day), im gonna go for sumink to eat and then get back to this, before i do so, ive got no other thermal interface materials on me ATM apart from the paste and tape provided, which do you reckons better Bill? Also as i'll be epoxying the other HS to the SB, do i just coat the full chip in a thin layer of the compund?

Cheers

I really recommend saving the original pegs for mounting the Vantec. I would use the paste provided for the Vantec.

Thin layer of epoxy on the southbridge, please. ;)

Well, i took out the mobo :D - thats me knackered for the day :x

Its in now, i used the tape because i couldnt get in to use the past 9i didt have the mobo fully out, just leaning out at an odd angle. The pegs on the vantec were alil difficult to get in but i got there in the end. The fans a noise little booger i'll give it that :). I havent put the HS on the NB (i'll let my dad do all that glue malarkey or i'll stick mysellf to the computer case :o. As it stands though the NB alone is making a hulluva differnece, im idling at 40C now at 2.3ghz wheras with the stock on at 2.15 i was idlign around 41/42

Cheers again Bill, what would we do without ya ;)

When i put the four case fans on its gone kinda quiet now actually ;). Aint closed the case up yet either. And besides i do play my music a tad on the loud side so noise isnt an issue with compo components in my books :)
