Wow, the new Budokai 2 coming out this December looks pretty impressive, looks almost as good as the cartoon itself, I'm just curious if anyone know what some of the new 11 characters are going to be,
These are the new characters that are going to be in it,
Videl
Dabura
Majin Buu
Super Buu
Kid Buu
Goten
Chibi Trunks
Uub (maybe)
Veggeto
Gotenks (i'm not sure if their including fusion vharacters cause what i read there is going to be alot of "what if" fusions)

the first one was good, the voices were dead on,the characters were dead on and it had a story to it. my son and I love dragonball z, fans for life. let's hope dbz even makes a appearance on xbox or I'll have to sell me xbox and go back to the ps2.

An I also read DragonBall GT is being worked on as well for the PS2, so it seems game developers are getting smart and milking a good thing such as Dragon Ball Z/GT... Now if they would only make a DragonBall (no Z/GT, jus DragonBall) I'd be a happy man, Or another DragonBall/z/gt RPG like the one for the Snes or Playstation :t

At last...... wohoooooo i salute all dragon ball fans....i'm Dragon Ball #1 FAN!!!!! :t
I've watched Dragon Ball over 4 times, Dragon Ball Z about 16 times and Dragon Ball GT 6 times, all of them entirely, i live in venezuela an Dragon Ball appeared on 1996. btw... Gokú Rulesss!!!! :D
I'm glad to see that at last Dragon Ball games are getting decent.....let's not talk about Legacy of Goku for the GBA it was a pitty effort to win money from the show fame....interplay sucks... ..
We, Dragon Ball fans, want a great Dragon Ball RPG....maybe Final Fantasy Style or something like that but with quality graphics like the ones of SoF II, morrowind, etc. And it has to be released also on the PC......i don't know what kinda **** is on the game developers heads....do they think that pc gamers don't like Dragon Ball???
Why don't they release Budokai 2 for the PC also???
well.....they are wrong...shame on them and shame on interplay and atari and funimation....get better or i'll send a Genki- Dama on your way to destroy you...

Well here they are:
1 High School Gohan
2 Videl
3 Majin Vegeta
4 Young Trunks
5 Goten
6 Andriod 20
7 Dabura
8 Majin Buu
9 Super Buu
10 Kid Buu
11 Supreme Kai
What if Fusions
I liked these actually
1 Yamcha and Tien

Well I actually saw a screenshot with the charachter select screen and my above post was right, except for Majin Vegeta. So... who is the other person? Maybe a fusion character {Vegitto, Gotenks (he's my fav DBZ character)}
For the Screen SHot go here... :) :)

At the character select screen there are only 29 characters, 10 of them new. Which means that Dodoria, Zarbon, #19, and Kid Gohan aren't in The sequal.
So there are actually 15 new characters!!! :)
some of which better be gotenks and vegitto. :)

I dunno.
I'm a huge DBZ and DBGT fan, but those games like Budokai 2 simply don't attract me...
It's always just like Street fighter++ or Mortal Combat Trilogy. That's not how they attract alot of gamers I think...
It's exactly the same with these pokémon games. On the Gameboy these rocked, as an RPG. If they could only make something like that, in complete 3D, on the GC or PS2, then I would be happy forever.
A game where I'm Goku, and go trough all tho's saga's, in 3D, move myself, chose my moves, try and dodge freeza his big fat bomb or hit it back to him, just like the cartoon.. All that in full 3D with nice effects and a big fat story line behind it where I have to fly and fullfill objectives, gain levels, sometime become supersayian 2 or 3 or 4, all good there.
But no, instead of that, they make some kind of mortal combat styled game where the only thing you can do is choose your character, choose your opponent, kick his ***, and thats it. That bores me real easily...

11-17-2003, 09:53 PM
ya know what why don't we all sit back and wait patiently until the game comes out to see how everything looks and is to be done. we do not know the offical cast of characters! we don't know the fusions! once again everyone is speculating what's going to happen. chances are when the final product is released it's going to be nothing like the first one by far and by what we said or have been saying some will be disappointed while others will be excited. But this will drag on till the date of release.

ive found many sites and pics of them doing the fuse and movies of hercule and goke fusing with the earings and iknow tha gogeta will not be in it the only time we see gogeta in dbz/gt is in gt a nd movie to specific janemba i love dragonball z a whatch it religously and i make a note to know these things thank you very much oh and hercule and goku fuse with the earings so:p
chriswhitelaw
11-17-2003, 10:08 PM
well that's a fine how to do that you know all this but if you have not played the game "religiously" then how do you know it's going to be in the final product. Games change quicker then the eye blinks as some of us know this. Don't expect to much out of this game and don't be disappointed when things you want to happen don't. Do you have proof to back up your claims with movies and pics and such? me being a hugh Z and GT fan myself "religously" would like to see what your talking about.

to keep up to speed on the game go get the new gamepro mag it has a free disk inside for the ps2 featuring Budokai 2 and the making of. those site you gave me are **** compared to what's on the disk and why is it you were giving me sites that had a foreign language I can't read that smack. english man speak english! anyone can make a site with all the pretty pictures and someone else can make a site with the same pictures show me something I haven't seen and I'll be impressed. another thing is you say the game is being released December 3rd why is it that the sites you gave me say the 7th and the 9th which means there full of beans and the info. is wrong. just go to dragonballz.com and see when they say it's being released. :p

Cause when your a DBZ/GT fan your one for life. Don't always rely on other website to get the facts about the game sometimes you gotta go straight to the source. Those websites you gave me were other people's opinions of the game and the pictures can be taken from anywhere on the web. True some of the facts on there are true but it's just there "opinion". :t

ok if you made a website usually what you would want to do is pick a topic in your case it would be dragonball z budokai 2 now you start by getting info. about the game ex. storyline, plot, release date, characters and so on. Where would you look well the first place I would look is in a search engine, ex. google, yahoo and so on. Second and most important is pictures you gotta have pictures to make your story good, where would you look for those well of course you could go straight to the source by who's making the game which would be Bandai/Atari and then if that fails, highly unlikely  search engines are key. throw it all together and you get your "opinion" of the game by shooting thru the web and throwing something together. And of course your very strong knowledge of DBZ/GT also helps. I'm glad to hear that it's out else where be kinda cool to already have it but as my mama always taught me "patience is a virtu" that's why to this day I hate her. Happy days when it does come out! :D

The original Dragon Ball Z: Budokai for the PlayStation 2 hooked fans of the long-running anime franchise with its addictive combination story, graphics, and gameplay. After years of games that struggled to find a way to bring the Dragon Ball license to the video game medium, developer Dimps' straightforward approach proved to be just what the doctor ordered for beleaguered fans. For the game's sequel, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2, Dimps has actually tweaked its successful formula by adding new moves, new playable characters, and a new gameplay mode. We had the chance to try out a near-final version of the game to see how this year's installment of the franchise has turned out.
Goku and posse return for more over-the-top fighting in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2.
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2 offers a slightly new experience from its predecessor, although many of the same modes are on hand, albeit with some modifications. You'll find four main gameplay modes to choose from. They are dragon world, dueling, world tournament, and training. Additionally, there's as an edit skills option. Dragon world replaces last year's story mode, and, while it still features narrative elements, it offers a decidedly different experience. The mode is broken up into three distinct components, a 2D-style board game, story sequences, and 3D fighting. As in last year's PlayStation 2 game and this year's recently released GameCube game, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2's narrative mines the various story arcs from the cartoon for its material. However, this time out the game doesn't use real-time cinemas based on the cartoon. The game's story is told via conversations between characters during the new 2D board sequences. The 3D fighting segments follow the same basic structure as the original game's, although there have been some refinements made to the fighting system.
The rest of the gameplay modes are straightforward and should be familiar to anyone who played last year's game. Dueling is basically a versus mode that lets you to take on a friend or an AI opponent. If you're looking to improve your fighting skills, you can also pit two AI opponents against one another and watch how they fight. The world tournament mode consists of a series of fights you can engage in to earn money so you can buy capsules to use in the game. The amount of cash your victories earn you is based on the level of difficulty at which you compete. The mode will initially offer only novice fights, but you'll be able to unlock greater levels of difficulty as you play through the game and buy corresponding capsules. Finally, the training mode lets you hone your fighting skills to perfection. This time out, the mode offers two ways to improve your battle techniques. Practice is a standard battle against an AI opponent that you can customize to suit your needs. Training, on the other hand, casts you in the role of Goten through six chapters that unlock sequentially. In these chapters, different characters will teach you the mechanics of the fighting engine. The edit skills option lets you go through and customize the fighters in your game with the various skill capsules you'll collect in the game. You'll be able to use your hard-earned cash in the skill shop to buy more or trade with a friend. You'll also be able to view an explanation of exactly how the skill system works, if you're unclear on its mechanics.
The dragon world mode gives the traditional story mode a new twist.
The tweaks to Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2's modes are complemented by some refinements and additions to its gameplay, which are, for the most part, welcome. The solid 3D fighting engine still features the same button layout and combo system. However, there have been some very cool additions that help give combat a more cinematic feel. The first addition is more of a refinement to the first game's over-the-top cinematics that could be triggered by knocking opponents out of the fighting arena and through obstacles, like mountains. Budokai 2 one-ups last year's game and offers some slick new camera angles for the cinematics. Additionally, it actually changes the layout of the arenas based on what happens. For example, it's now possible to trigger an avalanche when battling in one of the snowy locales. The other major additions to the fighting system are the ability to deflect incoming projectiles, like Raditz's soul bomb, in sequences that require you to rotate the analog sticks quickly and require you to move an onscreen meter as far right as you can within a certain amount of time. You'll be able to dodge incoming aerial attacks by pressing buttons in sequences that give you a few seconds to make a choice. If you manage to press the correct button, you'll slide out of the way, narrowly avoiding a painful squashing. The most significant addition to the fighting game, however, is the inclusion of the fusions that let different pairs of characters combine into brand-new fighters who are significantly more powerful than the individual fighters that make them up. The new moves are a perfect way to showcase the expanded fighting roster, which features alternate versions of characters, like Trunks, and presents new faces, like Supreme Kai, Goten, and Android #20.

Atari’s Dragonball Z: Budokai 2 is nearing release and we have just received the latest code in the office and the PlayStation 2 has been taking a right-royal beating since then.
Dragonball Z: Budokai 2 is the second outing for the game on the PlayStation 2 and it has received a large number of changes from the previous version including its graphic engine, the game mechanics and the options available for play. At its core, it’s still a fighting game that provides fans with some awesome core DBZ fun and in this regard it’s a total know
Upon powering up the game in your PS2 the first thing you’ll notice is the major change to the graphic engine. Gone is the polygonal textured look of the previous game, and it has been replaced with the cartoon-styled ‘cell shading’ which has been popular of late in many cartoon-styled games. As a result the characters are no longer blocky looking but well rounded and particularly muscular, with muscles building out of pretty much every place they can on the character’s bodies which is in line with the appearance of the cartoon series. Great attention to detail has been paid to the construction and animation of the characters faces, so that they know have a huge variety of expressions. The second and probably more appreciated addition is the inclusion of full English speech in the game. Although originally a Japanese cartoon series, series fans will no doubt jump for joy that the new game has full English speech and heaps of it. Characters jeer each other and have their usual pre-bout slanging match which is done in full 3D, really showing off the excellent character models that the developers have created.
Graphically there are a wide selection of backgrounds that are all modelled on the style and fell of the DBZ series with bright colours and anime-styled structures. Like the cartoon, the areas are wide open allowing for fights to cover vast areas, and in this game characters can be smashed through walls and buildings, very much like the Dead or Alive series. Seeing Goku smash Vegetta through the side of a mountain to have the whole mountain crash around him or to be kicked miles across the ocean only to rolling and smash into the side of the hill looks amazing and is executed with the same dynamic flair seen in the cartoon series. Very cool.
In terms of gameplay, Budokai 2 offers 34 different characters including the favourites Goku, Gohan, Piccolo, Raditz and Buu. Each fighter now has their own set of unique skills which are earned playing through the game’s ‘Dragon Mode’. Skills can then be swapped in and out of a player’s fighting arsenal to suit the taste of the player. There are a wide range of normal punch and kick chain combo attacks and special moves to finish the chain combos with. From the basic fireball attack ‘Kamehameha’ to the 30+ hit combo attacks like ‘Dragon Fist’ and the Power balls that engulf the whole screen and more, the attacks look fantastic and are fun to pull off on the computer or a friend. As with the original, players can fly around the screen or battle on the ground, and the dodge movement comes in very useful when avoiding fireballs the size of a city.
Aside from standard Duelling mode, players can enter the Dragonball Z tournament battle to fight for money which can be used to purchase new skills. These ring battles are fought in limited sized-arenas and getting knocked out can result in the loss of a match. The Dragon World mode places you in the Dragonball Z World where you have to battle to find the 7 Dragonballs before they fall into the hands of the likes of the Ginyu Force and Buu. Here players move around on a board-styled map which melds together the fighting action, while picking up new skills, more money and other unlockable bonuses to be used in all modes of the game. The story mode is excellent, bound together with lots of speech from all the characters and really brings the DBZ experience to the game.
As a package, Dragonball Z: Budokai 2 is a marked improvement on the original to say the least. In short, it’s a DBZ fan’s dream come true. It has very solid graphics that are the spitting image of the cartoon series, full English speech, a solid fighting engine with awesome special moves and a great story mode that has heaps of skills, features, characters and stages to unlock. Fans of the series can’t really be without this game, and even general fighting game fans are going to enjoy the story mode, the crazy super moves and the bizarre world that is Dragonball Z.

With Dragonball Z: Budokai 2 shortly due to appear on retail shelves around Australia and New Zealand, we endeavoured to catch up with the developers of the game, Bandai, and ask them some questions about their new fighting game for PS2.
The questions below were answered by Naoki Eguchi, European Operations Manager at Bandai Europe
What new features appear in this sequel that are sure to get Dragon Ball Z fans pumped with excitement?
I believe no matter how absorbing, interesting, and original a game is, if the visual and graphics of the game are not captivating, of just a mundane quality, people would not grab a controller and actually play it. But I have to say, in this Budokai 2, you cannot help noticing the awesomely high quality of Dragon Ball Z’s 3D graphics. You will love it! We created an entirely new system to bring the game to life. Now the player can experience Goku just as he is in the cartoon series, or even “control him as he/she wishes”, so it’s really exciting.
As you know, the original Budokai was meant to bring the players into the world of Dragon Ball Z, so they could experience the story they know. This was pretty successful as such. However, this time, we are introducing a much more exciting new mode called Dragon World, where no specific story has to be followed and lots of freedom is allowed. In this mode, you are expected to be the one who creates the story. It’s your Dragon ball Z story, and nobody else’s! Budokai 2 has an irresistible attraction, and leaves you with the most exhilarating feelings you’ve ever had when playing.
Which characters can you fight as out of the 34 that appear in the game?
You will be able to use about 30 characters when the game is released. We even have new characters in hand that’ll be a great surprise to you. Moreover, there are various fusion characters that’ll appear during a battle. So you may feel you have more than 30 characters that you can use.
Can you tell us a bit about the new character fusions, and how they work?
Fusion of course means two characters fuse together into another character.
This can be done by pressing certain button combinations. Do you remember the scene in the cartoon where Goten and Trunks were practicing ‘Fusion’? Well, actually, it’s not that easy to perform ‘Fusion’ as you may have noticed from the scene. It’s quite possible ‘Fusion’ doesn’t succeed during a battle, but this doesn’t simply mean it’s failed. In Budokai 2, you have to continue fighting until a weird creature comes into being as a result of the ‘Fusion.’ So this is like kind of a double-edged sword, if you like: that is, if you succeed ‘Fusing’, the power of a character is outrageously strong, but if you fail, you know … I guess I don’t need to say this. It isn’t an exaggeration if I say the Fusion’s outcome is the key to a battle.
How is the new single-player Dragon Mode structured? Also is it story-led, and if so what’s the basic plot?
As the name indicates, the Dragon World mode is a mode where “the player can experience the world of Dragon Ball Z.” In this mode, the player is expected to collect all seven Dragon Balls hand in hand with Goku’s friends in the world. This mode also contains traditional RPG elements. We hope you’ll enjoy this mode, where a fighting game meets with a RPG. Moreover, there is no single story in this mode. Depending on who you fight with at a given point at a given time, depending on who you use in the mode, the story can change a thousand times. We want the players to create their own story with their hands! Every time you play the game, a different and entirely new Dragon Ball Z world awaits you.
Can you highlight some of the special moves that’ll appear this time round in Budokai2?
I can recommend one special move. All characters have their own highest level of special moves. It is absolutely the highest and strongest move. The one I can tell you here is “Videl's Close Call” by Videl. Videl and Gohan fight together and blast the opponent. All team members love this move.
What’s your favourite feature in the game?
Well … there are two. One is, I’d have to say, is the graphics are greatly improved from the original Budokai.
The other is Dragon World where the player weaves his/her own drama. The characters that are created using “Toonshade,” produced exclusively for Dragon ball Z, made the game as hot as technically possible at every single level, including battle scenes and special game effects. Having been engaged in the production of Budokai 2, I was made to realize again that the pure shock a game can produce is not from logic but simply from the graphics and visual images that the game presents.
The Dragon World mode is filled with “ifs” which we couldn’t incorporate into Budokai 1. The mode can hopefully answer a lot of “ifs” DBZ-addicts may have: like “what’s gonna happen if I do this here?”, “what shall happen to Dragon Ball Z World if I fight a battle that doesn’t exist in the original cartoon?” etc. The mode could reveal a startling ending too. I could never be bored playing as it always turns out to be different. I can play a zillion times!!
Well, thanks to Naoki Eguchi for taking time to answer those questions!

it's pointless to reply to a thread that should be dead and taken off now because of how many pages it has gone on for talking about absolutely nothing at all. that's your take on the game that you like it, fine! I'm going by reviews from the internet and magazines. I'll buy the game cause I am a DBZ fan but I still think the cel shading was a bad idea in my opinion. I have not played it yet nor rented it just going by previews and reviews.

For one Dennis I think your remarks are a little child like, if you say you’re just stating you opinion do so in a respectful and courteous manner and not like a child as ur post above indicates. if you had posted your remarks in a un insulting manner you would not have got the answer you saw from Chris, as bill says to wrongs don’t make a right, but one wrong causes the problem. so dont make a problem by insulting remarks.
