Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : this VCD not playable in Sony DVP-S330
Brought home a VCD from Hong Kong and it says NO DISC when inserted into the Sony DVP-S330 (compatibility charts at http://www.vcdhelp.com say VCDs should work). The VCD worked in a Hitachi LD/DVD player back in Hong Kong.
Anyway, I am thinking it's just a matter of our player not being able to read the CDR. If that's the case, can I convert the .dat file somehow into a playable/recognizable VCD format for our Sony? Using Nero 5.5... should it be VCD or Super VCD, etc. New to this encoding/converting video stuff. Any help is appreciated!
If it doesn't read cdr you can't do anything. Look it with your computers cdrom drive. I remember sonys can't understand cdrs, vcds are fine but if the vcd is cdr then it doesn't work. That's just logical =)

It's your DVD's inability to read CDR/W discs, sorry, SONY is known for castrating their players...
Your PC CDROM should play it though.
My Sony's inability to read the CDR was just a hunch. Could it be possible that it's a bad VCD format of some kind or is there only one type?
It works fine on my computer (Pioneer DVDROM) though the audio gives 2 different languages at the same time like a DVD would. You can tell I'm new to this video format stuff.

Did you see this at VCDHelp? It seems there are several having problems, but some DO work. It is possible that the player is very picky when it comes to its encoding parameteres. I would not suggest calling Sony as most of the tech guys will have no clue how to help. I would test a few encoding parameters and once I got it right, then I'd rip the Hong Kong VCD and re-encode it. You may talk one of the lucky guys who got this to work into sending you their parameters for encoding. Also, looks like Prime Peripherals CDs work, so try those.
