I think I am going to go with a Radeon 9500 PRO over a TI4800SE
See if my reasoning makes sense:

Heres why:
-performance might be behind even a TI4200 a bit, when you are running w/o visual goodies(aka 4XAA, etc.), but at 130, 150fps, is that really that noticable? I mean, 150fps to 130fps isn't that big a difference to the eye.

-As soon as you crank on the 4XAA and whatever else the ATI optimizes for, it leaves even the TI4600 in the dust. 55fps at 1280X1024 w/ 4XAA and stuff is MUCH better than 28fps or so.
These are the numbers where every 5or10fps is important.

-9500's are DX9, ready for the future, while TI's are only DX8.1

It looks like they have finally gotten the driver issues straightened out... or at least a lot better.

I'm hearing I should get a 9500PRO over a 9600PRO, is this true? Why would the older one be faster?

Any diehard nvidia fans convince me otherwise?

Good logic to me, at higher detail the r9500 kicks the nvidia silly, of course for the fps speed freaks nvidia will still remain king though

After reading this article:

http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDU4

There is no reason at all for one to get the 9600PRO over the 9500PRO! It explains it very well, how the 9500 pro is so much better, and ATI really scaled back on the 9600, to try to get people to buy the 9800.

I'd better get one(9500PRO) before I can't even find them online anymore!

Ht eonly advantage the r9600 holds is that certain cards overclock unbelievably well bringing it beyond the performance of the 9500, of course at stock the 9500 is the better card

Now anyone know where I can find one for a good price, from a reputable reseller? Man, it really sucks when newegg doesn't carry something you want!

--Jakk:t That's what I would have said for the Ti4800SE over the 9500 Pro also - certain models overclock unbelievably well ...

You missed the 9500 Pro on New Egg by only a few days I think. But they ran out and can't get more since it's out of production. :(

MultiWave (http://direct.mwave.com/mwave/ProdVID-ATI.hmx?UID=&CID=&updepts=VID&DNAME=%3Cb%3EVideo+Cards%3C%2Fb%3E&back=ProdVID-ATI.hmx?) may still have a few left.

Aw man! I am bidding on one on ebay that will close this afternoon, chance I will get it(new, retail, built by ati). Otherwise I might get the one on mwave,

What is missing from the OEM besides the cd of outdated drivers?
I might want the DVI-CRT dongle, since I dont' have a DVI monitor yet, I have a nice big 19" CRT for school, and a 17' analog viewsonic that I got for a good deal, but doesn't have DVI.

Nevermind, I won a retail built by ATI new in box on ebay, for $188 shipped! Not too bad... since they are getting very much harder to find.
