I got the Chinese Click of Death Virus from opening an E-Mail that looked a lot like this.
Before any of you naysayers start in on me,, I've already read MicroSofts statement about this thing NOT Existing, baloney..
Here's the mail header->>
"from- dddd =?UNKNOWN?Q?
subject- =D6=D0=B9=FA=A3=A8=BB=A... 7:48 AM GMT-05:00 1k
Anyone else get this garble ?

Just curious (and maybe a bit paranoid), why would you open mail addressed like that?

The way that line goes, and not being able to find anything about the virus, it sounds like just a practical joke.
You've ran anti-virus programs, correct?
I'd also like to know why you would open an e-mail with that subject http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Were you temporarily being your nickname? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
I looked for it too but had no luck finding it. Might try sending it to SARC or some other place like McAfee.

Nope haven't seen it.
Only click of death I ever heard of was from Iomega. I've searched through microsofts website, came up 0. Also tried other search engines. Nothing exept Iomega and something about chinese death strawberries. And some other chinese stuff.

Sorry about being so vague.
The Click of Death viurs started with the Zip drives in 97 or so.
I got a mail from a source that used Chinese characters..
I left the mail stagnant for several days, then when doing the "next, next" through mails, I accidently opened it.
Next boot, it wouldn't, then the drive started spooling up, then slamming to the rest.
This migrated from the HP's Quantum Slowfoot drive next to another drive, I think a Quantum Fireball 2.5gb.
Is this standard procedure when a drive goes bad ?
Upon seeking some hardware at a local computer shop, one of the geeks there upon hearing me start the story, FINISHED it for me in its' entirety.
So someone else has heard of the situation.
A local College first contracted the Zip Click of Death viurs, that I heard of anyway.
As far as Microsoft, they issued a statement, I'll repeat as best as memory serves.
" There are NO known viurs' that cause hardware failure/damage "
Maybe the viurs don't cause hardware failure, but the symptoms sure do..
And MiKe85
I don't FREAKING JOKE ABOUT VIRUS'
I'm gonna forward the e-mail to go.comt

No...
Where did you get the "Chinese Click of Death" name from, Doc?
I can't find anything listed (yet) with that name.
And where's the MS statement - link?
