Is it just me?
Everytime about 95% of the time I try to email people that have an
AOL account I get a 505 error,

*** ATTENTION ***

Your e-mail is being returned to you because there was a problem with its
delivery. The address which was undeliverable is listed in the section
labeled: "----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----".

The reason your mail is being returned to you is listed in the section
labeled: "----- Transcript of Session Follows -----".

The line beginning with "<<<" describes the specific reason your e-mail could
not be delivered. The next line contains a second error message which is a
general translation for other e-mail servers.

Please direct further questions regarding this message to your e-mail
administrator.

... while talking to air-zd02.mail.aol.com.:
>>> RCPT To:<*******@aol.com>
<<< 550 MAILBOX NOT FOUND
550 <*******@aol.com>... User unknown"

What's up with that?
I try to send through my regular account and also through web-email accounts... virtually same results.

Any AOL users out there that can shed some light on this?
Or any non-aol(anti-aol http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif) users have any opinion on this?

By the way that was nice going of their daring price hike http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif (I am trying to be nice on this comment)

The only thing I can think of is the recipients have filtering turned on to only accept from e-mail addresses they have specified & forgotten to add your address. I've never had any problems receiving mail.

I have no trouble sending or receiving email from my families AOL accounts. either from within AOL or with my own pop3 email accounts

Maybe the people you are trying to email have changed their "screen names" (which is the same as their email name minus the @aol.com part)

People can change their screen names all the time. (all but their MASTER account name)

AOL has several mail filters.

filters out all non aol users
filter out specific addresses
allows only specific addresses

With the amount of SPAM AOL users and everyone else get's and the retardness of AOL filters this is proably the problem.

I have no trouble e-mailing to AOL, or receiving e-mail from people with AOL.

I have an AOL account, (use it just for e-mail, etc.) I can send myself a link with no problem, and haven't heard any complaints about the e-mail.
