Girlfriends got a Dell Dimension 4400 with a p4 1.7, 256 ddr, and a 64 meg Geforce 2 MX. Well, she's a SIMS freak and she just installed Superstar(all of the other expansion packs have been installed in order other than Vacation, which she does not have) and it's crashing pretty often and is really slow when you go to studio town.

We've already done a clean re-install and it did helped the crashing some, but not much. Any suggestions? As far as I can see there shouldn't be anything even close as far as hardware requirements.

She does have a bunch of downloads and cheats involved so that could have something to do with it. Or maybe Superstar has got some bugs that's there no patchs out for yet??? Thanks for any info.

Oh, and if this should have went in the gaming forum, my apologies. Just didn't know where this thing might lead to.

Are the cheats you mentioned coming in the form of a trainer running alongside the game, or are they just regular cheats being inputted in-game?
Because in my experience I've always been told 2 stay away from trainers as they often are poorly put together and do more harm than good.
I'd suggest running the game without any form of cheats first of all ( if it is a trainer. )
The comp may just be struggling to run efficiently if is poorly maintained. It might be worth formatting completely & reinstalling if no-one else has an answer for ya. I know it's a pain in the ***** tho

my Wife were bugging me the same thing since Hot Date

like you described it was hellish slow once you go into town

after the upgrade to 512 RAM, no PAGEFILE and ATI 9000 128

the game is smooth like sailing in a calm lake

"the game is smooth like sailing in a calm lake"

Seeing how a sail boat in a calm lake means no wind. What are you saying-its a slide show slow thing?:p

Thanks for the info. That's the way it acts, just like it's not enough machine, though I don't quite understand it. Always worked fine, until Superstar, and I couldn't see where the one expansion pack would make that big of deal. Guess I'll try and tweak some settings and see what I can come up with. Anybody got a good CHEAP source for some memory??:D

Thanks,

Casey

is your wife's system using 2100 ddr? Here in South Korea the price for pc133 sdram and 2100 ddr ram is the same. It wsa very easy to upgrade to 512Mb of ddr ram.

DDR doesnt really make a great difference where games are concerned, especially not if your CPU is below the 1.5Ghz mark
