Hi,
my Ricoh CDRW doesn't read any CDs in win2k and win98se. The LED blinks after booting into windows. Occasionally (rarely) it manages to read the CDs. ironically these CDs are the ones created by the CDR itself! both windows device manager register the CDRW's existense. But the darn thing just won't read. Since it shows up in windows, i know the connectors are fine. Any help?

Have you tried the cdr in a normal cd drive?
Give the drive a clean with a cd cleaner.

if the cleaning doesn't work, it sounds like you got a bad lens. I would just replace the drive. cdrw drives are pretty cheap now.

ahh Ricoh, a known issue

how long ago did you get it?

if it's still under warranty 1 year return it to the store and exchange it

if not, then you'll have to RMA it to the factory

drives usually have 3 years warranty
