What is your favorite browser? Jon MrBaseball 06-09-2001, 10:20 AM hmmm, good question. Well since I'm so used to IE, I'm gunna have to say IE. club_med 06-09-2001, 11:46 AM I use IE, but I think Opera (http://www.opera.com) is better. cm. radbasa 06-09-2001, 11:51 AM The best web browser is what I like to use, what other people likes to use, and what you like to use. It's all a matter of personal preference. Try them all. Go with what you feel comfortable with. Me, I'm stuck with Netscape. Been using it since version 2. All my email, bookmarks, everything's been in that format for too long for me to shift browser/email apps. I'm on ver. 6 now. It's not stable. Crashes more than "from time to time". But it doesn't bring down the OS when it does. And any browser with java, javascript, multimedia plug-ins are inherently unstable. I do use IE from time to time though on my PC. I use IE exclusively on a Win2k Celeron300A system I use to ICS my DSL. Don't want extraneous apps running on that system. So I just use the built-in IE. ragtop 06-09-2001, 03:31 PM I always liked Netscape until I "upgraded" to 6.0. It was sooo bad, I went back to 4.7 until it started working poorly on certain pages, then I finally switched to IE. I still like the format of Netscape better, but I'm getting used to IE. RobRich 06-09-2001, 03:49 PM I prefer Opera (especially for BeOS), but I am often forced to use IE 5.5/6.0 for HTML compatibility reasons at some of my favorite sites. Robert Richmond Goldwingnut 06-09-2001, 03:51 PM I have to say IE, for compatibility reasons. I can run Osborne/McGraw-Hill tutorial and testing HTMLs on it. They dont work right in Netscrap; a Javascript incompatibility. Same with my favorite parts source, www.jazztechnology.com (http://www.jazztechnology.com) Their pages don't work with Netscrap. I have IE trained to run Arachnophilia when I click the edit button. In Netscape I seem to be blessed with their editor, which I don't care for. I keep Netscrap around, so I can verify HTML files work on it. No other reason. Its VERY, VERY usefull to have these "internet zone", "restricted zone" etc. Whatever is sayed about IE security, I agree totally, but lets keep in mind that there might be and propably are...LOTS OF BUGS in Opera, Netscape, etc. etc. BUT, they dont get noticed, updated or fixed. Thats the REAL problem with them! Otherwise I concider Opera 5.11 best. It has NEVER hanged or done anything "bad" what IE does all the time. One feature what I really like is the ability to delete all private data by a single button...and they really are all gone then, not like in IE... Also, its very fast, compact and secure. Netscape is crappy. Its slow, and every time you want to chance your security settings, it wants to (atleast the first version of the 6 did) PUT UP A SERVER!!! Can you believe that!?! Also, it hangs up every now and then. Just my 10cents... Feel free to disagree... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Markus Graham 06-09-2001, 06:08 PM Gotta be Opera, I use it exclusively except for the sites that dont like it. Netscape was good but too unreliable, never liked IE. G prexaspes 06-09-2001, 06:21 PM Well, after starting with IE 3.0 and hating it, I went to Netscape. Then I tried a brief stint with opera. Then I gave IE 4 a shot. Went back to Netscape. Checked up on opera. IE 5 came out about the same time I finally went to windoze 98. I've been with IE 5 ever since. Most everyone's computer I work on uses IE5, and it pays for me to use the same stuff. You know that windows update? Well, when it messes up somebody's computer I don't like being clueless, that way it already messed up my system and I can fix theirs easier. Not that I have much love for Microsloth... Bsdboy 06-09-2001, 06:28 PM I use IE 6 I like it better than 5 or 5.5. Bsdboy wing7788 06-09-2001, 11:02 PM IE by default as it is the browser provided by Microsoft. If we could have available means of getting other browsers just as easy as getting IE, I believe the better browser would be anything other than IE. NDC 06-09-2001, 11:08 PM IE5 works just fine for me! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif Only thing special I noticed about IE6 was the option to remove cookies which I can already do using System Mechanic... charmler 06-09-2001, 11:12 PM wing7788 I could give you the links for quite a few browsers if you would like to quit using the best one. IE 5.5 as I haven't tried 6 yet. I have read quite a bit about it and most is positive. Like the part about it being the default browser for XP. Savant 06-09-2001, 11:44 PM Lynx! DanU 06-10-2001, 12:23 AM Lynx??? LOL! You must be use to seeing the word "IMAGE" a lot http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. I've been using Netscape 4.77 simply because all my bookmarks and my e-mail is in Netscape format. On occassion I'll use IE for pages that don't display properly on Netscape. otheos 06-10-2001, 01:02 AM It's gotta be Opera (5.11+). I do not open "proprietary" pages anyway (their fault not mine) like flash etc. Not that Opera can't handle it... Savant 06-10-2001, 08:16 AM sometimes, but have you ever heard of lynx crashing? but in truth I'm searching for a browser at the moment, I absolutely refse to use IE. its not as bad as it was when I first started hateing it (3.0) but I still don't like it.
